Ohtani Hits 37th Homer As He Aims For Exclusive Club

One of baseball’s biggest superstars continues to impress as he leads the National League in home runs. Shohei Ohtani launched his 37th home run on Tuesday this week while playing against the Milwaukee Brewers. He is second in all of MLB.

As Ohtani continues to make an impact with the long ball, he has also reached a career-high in stolen bases. He has already become a member of the 30-30 club this season, however, 40-40 is just in reach for the phenom. With his power at the plate and speed on the basepaths, he is on pace to reach this exclusive milestone. Will Ohtani be able to surpass the current MLB home run leader and become a member of the 40-40 club?

Ohtani’s NL Leading Home Run

Ohtani is now second in the MLB with home runs this season with 37. He is behind New York Yankees superstar, Aaron Judge, who currently holds the lead with 44 homers. Though Judge holds a substantial lead, the battle for second place is tight. Anthony Santander of the Baltimore Orioles is sitting in third place with 36 home runs while Marcell Ozuna is not far behind with 35.

Ohtani’s NL-leading 37th home run came on Tuesday night in Milwaukee. In the third inning of the second game of the series, Ohtani launched a no-doubt moon shot to right field. The outfielders could do nothing but turn and watch as the ball sailed out of the park and reached the second deck. The ball was projected to have gone 413 feet off of the bat of Ohtani. The monster shot put the Dodgers up two. They went on to defeat the Brewers 7-2.

40-40 Club In The Future

Earlier this month, Ohtani joined the 30-30 club as he reached 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases. He is the first player this season to do so. This was an impressive feat to have achieved as he was able to do it in just 108 games. This made him the third quickest player to do it in MLB history, according to David Adler of MLB.com. In doing so, he became the third Dodger in history to join the club, along with Matt Kemp and Raul Mondesi.

With close to 40 games remaining in the MLB season, Ohtani is on pace to reach yet another incredible milestone with 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases. As he currently sits at 37 home runs and 35 stolen bases, this feat could be accomplished very soon.

This exclusive club only holds five members as of now. These include Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Alfonso Soriano, and Ronald Acuna Jr. As the season carries on, all eyes will be on Ohtani as he uses his undeniable power and threatening speed to accomplish this goal.

Ohtani’s Impact Moving Forward

Despite virtually all of their key players going down with injury, The Dodgers are still leading the NL West with a record of 72-51. The race in the west is close with the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres both three games back of LA.

Ohtani’s impact has been undeniable all season long. He is fourth in the league in OPS with .984 while maintaining a consistent batting average of .291. His presence on the field and leadership on the team have all contributed to the success of the Dodgers this season. Ohtani and the Dodgers look to move to 73-51 on the year as they take on the St. Louis Cardinals tonight.
