Finn Allen Signs Two-Year Deal with Perth Scorchers

The New Zealand opener Finn Allen has put his name on a two-year deal binding him to the Perth Scorchers, and as many had expected, it moved a few poles. This is going to be one exciting new chapter not just for Allen but also for the Scorchers, considering its fans are looking to get in on a lot of fireworks in the Big Bash League over the next couple of seasons.

Allen's move to join the Scorchers comes a day after rejecting a central contract with New Zealand. This move brings a lot of new opportunities for this explosive batsman, who has been known for his aggressive style in T20s. He strikes at 168.60—arguably one of the most explosive players in this format. Moreover, he has that kind of explosiveness that provides new dimensions to the game, and his being in the Scorchers lineup is absolutely good news.

Allen has been in tremendous touch in recent outings. He has hit a dominant note in almost every T20 league happening around the globe. In his most recent outing in the 2024 Shpageeza Cricket League, he scored 45 runs from just 20 balls. He also made a huge impression with a scorching 38 off 16 in the Men's Hundred. Allen's attacking style will certainly take the BBL to another dimension.

Impressive International Stats

Allen's T20I stats are pretty impressive, too. His memorable knock of 42 off just 16 balls came when the team needed it most, against Australia at the 2022 T20 World Cup. This is what Scorchers expect more from him.

Scorchers struggled a bit last season for someone to fill the opening spot due to Cameron Bancroft moving to Sydney Thunder. Two fifties did come from England's Zak Crawley, but a vacancy was visibly felt. The signing of Allen could well turn out to be the answer to their prayers—stability and flair at the top of the order.

It may be noted that Allen will not compete in the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, which starts in October. His absence from international duty will, however, leave the path clear for a fully engaged BBL season. The Scorchers will gain from his full focus and energy during the league.

Come September 1, the Scorchers have strategic picks lined up for the BBL draft. They will pick from positions 7, 15, 18, and 31, and this can only see them continue strengthening the squad.
