Shoriful Islam to Target Big Babar Azam Wicket in the Tests

Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam seems well and truly up for making the upcoming Test series against Pakistan truly eventful. Bagging the prized scalp of star cricketer Babar Azam. Of course, after being away from the game at the Test level, Shoriful, in his comeback, is all excited to lock horns with some of the world's best players.

Shoriful Back in Test Cricket

Shoriful Islam has featured in several franchise tournaments, from LPL to GT20 Canada. Making it a habit after being an integral part of the white-ball set-up for Bangladesh, he is now returning to the Test format. Very recently, he lost his place in the T20I side to the likes of Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who did wonders in the T20 World Cup 2024. After his franchise commitments, Shoriful had little time to devote to Test preparation.

He joined the Bangladesh team on August 16, just a few days before the series started. Not willing to let his late arrival dampen his spirits, Shoriful is excited about challenging some top men from Pakistan, with none other than Babar Azam at the top of the list.

Shoriful's Strategy for the Series

Meeting the press recently, Shoriful shared how the Pakistani batting—in the forms of Babar Azam and Shan Masood—is going to give them a hard time. He said that while these players are world-class, he has no doubts that the bowlers of Bangladesh to come back strongly.

The wicket of Babar Azam has meant a lot of premium for Shoriful. He called it his dream wicket and he would have done anything to lay his hands on it as early as possible in an innings. Shoriful remembered playing with Babar in the LPL and referred to him as a nice man. Shoriful thinks that another big challenge for them will be Pakistani skipper Babar Azam. The applied pressure, though, will start with his dismissal quickly after.

Shoriful and Babar have shared the dressing room in the LPL for the Colombo Strikers. The good relationship they share off the field spices up things a bit as both teams lock horns. Even though they are on nice terms, Shoriful is looking forward to dismissing Babar.

Adapting to Conditions

He also commented that Bangladesh needs to get used to the conditions in Pakistan, which they are not used to. They did not play much cricket there in recent years, so getting their hat around at the pitch at Rawalpindi will be crucial. Famous for being favorable to batting and fast bowling, it will be a good test of adaptability by the team visiting.

The first Test of this two-match series is slated to start in Rawalpindi on August 21 and will be followed by the second Test in Karachi on August 30. Both matches are going to be important if they want to improve their standing in the Championship.

The action is going to erupt into a very interesting battle as Shoriful Islam gears up to attack Babar Azam's wicket in the upcoming Test series. With Shoriful's determination and the class of Babar, it's going to be a real show for cricket enthusiasts. Now, it will all depend on how Shoriful realizes his dream wicket to help Bangladesh make a mark in this all-important series.
