Brian Thomas Jr. is set up to have a monster season in 2024, even as a rookie. The 21-year-old was the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by Jacksonville. Although they signed Gabriel Davis in free agency to replace Calvin Ridley, they need a big-time deep threat to unlock this offense.

Ridley signed with the rival Tennessee Titans, as the Jaguars will need more firepower this year in contention for the AFC South. Thomas Jr. could replicate his stats from 2023 and then some.

Brian Thomas Jr. recorded one reception in the preseason for 41 yards, but it was an impressive contested catch. At LSU, the elite NFL Scouting Combine tester had a breakout third year in college.

For the Tigers, he had 60 catches for over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns. At 6’4″ and 205 pounds, the big-framed speedster fits right at home in a vertical-style offense. Especially with the quarterback in Jacksonville and the offensive coordinator Press Taylor, along with head coach Doug Pederson.

After a slow training camp earlier this month, this past week’s reports coming out of Jacksonville mention he’s been “unguardable” in joint practices. This is an encouraging sign for a young first-rounder who is expected to have a big role in this offense.

According to Fantasy Pros, Brian Thomas Jr. is the 118th overall pick in PPR and the 49th wide receiver. That makes him an easy pick around the 9th or 10th round in most leagues. This is in the range where Rome Odunze, Xavier Worthy, Ladd McConkey, and Keon Coleman all go in redraft.

Even in a crowded offense with the Jaguars, he has the highest potential for touchdowns and potential yards in the high-powered aerial attack. Thomas Jr. could have an upside that rivals fellow LSU rookie Malik Nabers on the New York Giants despite the multiple-round difference in ADP.

In an offense with Gabriel Davis, Evan Engram, Travis Etienne, and Trevor Lawrence throwing him the ball, there will be intense competition for the ball. Along with Christian Kirk, Devin Duvernay, and Parker Washington, they are loaded with receivers.

However, the chemistry between Ridley and Lawrence on deep throws was off in 2023. Brian Thomas Jr. could be their big play threat. Although he will have to develop his route tree, the former LSU receiver has a size and speed combination that no other receiver on the roster offers.

The rookie in redraft leagues could be a steal in any format and could be the type of player that can win your league down the stretch. With the eighth-easiest schedule against wide receivers, Thomas Jr. has a massive opportunity in the preseason to prove himself further.
