Tennessee Vols Land Top 2025 Offensive Tackle

Josh Huepel and his staff at the University of Tennessee stayed hot on the recruiting trail on Saturday. Five Star David Sanders Jr, the top offensive tackle in the class of 2025, announced his commitment to the Vols on Saturday afternoon during a ceremony at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sanders has long been rumored to be a heavy Tennessee lean, and he finally pulled the trigger. His announcement speech centered around his family and his love and appreciation for them. The commitment to Tennessee ensures they will be able to make the drive over to Knoxville from Charlotte to see him play.

David Sanders Jr as a Recruit

Andrew Ivins from 247Sports has compared Sanders to former ninth overall selection and current Seattle Seahawk Charles Cross.

“Gifted athlete with a chance to emerge as a franchise corner protector given his foot quickness and reactionary skills…Tends to explode out of his stance and constantly plays with a sense of urgency as he is always looking for work. Advanced hand placement gives him an advantage in pass sets as does his proficiency in changing course and refortifying. Climbs up field with ease and is more than capable of clearing traffic on screens.”

Building in the trenches is how championships are won…especially in the SEC where Georgia, Alabama, and LSU have dominated up front for years. Tennessee has done a great job of building and developing depth along its defensive line. Now, with the 2024 and 2025 classes, they have started stockpiling talent and depth along the offensive line.

    Tennessee Volunteers 2025 Recruiting Class

With the commitment of David Sanders Jr on Saturday, Tennessee has moved up to number six in the class of 2025 team recruiting rankings on 247Sports Composite. Recruits have been gassing up the Vols for a while now, as they check off a lot of boxes.

“Tennessee has been in it from the beginning I would say,” Sanders said. “I knew I was a priority for their program. They have done an amazing job since day one just letting me know I am a priority for their program. They have great facilities, great training staff, strength and conditioning. It is somewhere I can go and develop.”

Heupel and crew now have their crown jewel of the 2025 class in Sanders. With 22 overall commitments, Tennessee still has a few targets left on the board. Most notable is probably four star cornerback Onis Konanbanny out of Columbia, South Carolina, who is announcing his commitment on August 23.
