Tyler Reddick Wins After Breathtaking Wrecks

After a series of wrecks that shocked the NASCAR world Tyler Reddick came out on top having a dominant car late in the race. Michigan International Speedway is known for its higher speeds the highest in NASCAR reaching over 200 miles per hour as it delivered an incredible show in Ford and General Motors’s backyard. With high speeds comes big wrecks and on top of a race track that had all the rubber washed away chaos was all but guaranteed.

Multiple consequential wrecks took place in this race. The first wreck involved Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, Christopher Bell, and Bubba Wallace. Wallace was having a much-needed big day for points as he came into the race three points above the playoff cutline. However, the wreck caused by Larson getting loose and spinning in front of the field caused the untimely end to his day and Logano and Bell’s day as well. Wallace’s McDonald-themed car was heavily damaged but was able to crawl the rest of the way to finish in 26th. Wallace now sits one point outside of the playoffs.

The other big wreck is not so much consequential from a championship perspective but from a safety standpoint it is going to raise many questions. Corey Lajoie and Noah Gregson made slight contact causing Lajoie to spin out and then go airborne nearly instantly. Lajoie slammed back to earth upside down sliding down the backstretch on his roof into the grass causing him to barrel roll a couple of times finally coming to rest right side up.

It is believed that the car did not turn completely around quickly enough to open the flap to the diffuser that would have otherwise kept the back of the car on the ground. We saw the diffuser with Ross Chastain in overtime later in the race. NASCAR will undoubtedly look at the footage and the car to see what happened to cause such a violent wreck. Lajoie is ok and was checked and released from the infield care center.

Tyler Reddick Wins Second Race

Tyler Reddick the dirt racer from Corning, California outdueled William Byon on two overtime starts and captured his seventh career cup series victory his first at Michigan and his second of the year. Tyler Reddick becomes the sixth multi-time winner in the 2024 season. Tyler Reddick thanked his Toyota teammate Ty Gibbs for the drafting assist in victory lane:

Just a great teammate and, Fantastic push by Ty Gibbs. That’s what it is all about. The Toyota Racing family tries to take care of each other.

Tyler Reddick also paid tribute to his mentor dirt racing legend Scott Bloomquist who was tragically killed in a private plane crash earlier this week:

It’s been really cool. I can’t help but sit here in Victory Lane and think of Scott Bloomquist. Huge mentor to me, incredible role model, legend of dirt racing and motorsports. The last couple days have been tough. This really helps it. This win should go for him, his family, his friends … It’s tough. It’s always tough when someone you care about passes away. But my thoughts are with him and his family.

Thanks to Larson’s bad day and Chase Elliott falling behind late, Reddick with the win has become the new points leader ten points ahead of Chase Elliot, with 15 playoff points on the line for the regular season champion it is another storyline to watch through the last two races before the playoff. At the cutoff line for the playoffs, the standings have been shaken up once again. Bubba Wallace is now one point behind Chastain for the final spot, Chris Buscher is 15 points above the cutline and Ty Gibbs is 39 points ahead of Wallace.
