Kid-friendly DIYs are a great way to encourage kids to use their creative thinking, sensory, and motor skills and promote family time, especially if the craft activities are hands-on. With fall right around the corner, it's the perfect time to think outside the box and capture the season's spirit. Whether it's fresh fallen leaves, crisp air, or cool temperatures, there's no beating the peaceful feeling autumn gives. Why not capture this feeling by helping your kids create their DIY fall crafts? Here are three fun and easy kid-friendly ideas that are sure to become seasonal favorites.

    Kid-Friendly DIY Handprint Art

A tree made from handprints is one of the most fun and effortless kid-friendly DIY crafts. It captures the essence of all the beautiful fall colors and allows your child to use their sensory skills to explore textures and develop hand-eye coordination. To do this craft with your child, you'll need three 2-ounce containers of washable project paint in red, yellow, and orange; safety scissors; white paper plates; brown construction paper; a large sponge brush; a glue stick; and a sizeable white construction paper or a small 6x6 art canvas (whichever you prefer).

First, cover your craft space with a plastic garbage bag and lay the white construction paper or art canvas in the center. Next, place the paint tray, paints, and sponge brush off to one side and cut a 10-inch strip of brown construction paper using safety scissors. Then, use the glue stick to glue the strip of brown construction paper to the bottom of the white construction paper or art canvas. Once that is all set, use the sponge brush, put a small amount of each paint color on your child's hand one at a time, and place their hand at the top of the tree trunk that was created.

Lastly, allow the paint to dry for about 10 minutes, and watch your beautiful tree come to life. This easy and kid-friendly DIY craft project is as much fun as it is gorgeous. You can even have your child date and write their name using a Sharpie marker at the bottom of the painting to mark the occasion. The painting captures the spirit of fall and will be a keepsake that you can hang in your home each new season. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and make some lasting memories by painting one today.

    Fall-Themed Stone Painting Project

If your kids thought capturing the season's essence by painting was fun, they'll love creating fall-themed stone art. Not only is this kid-friendly DIY craft easy to do, but it's also inexpensive because you don't need to look further than your backyard. Stone art is an excellent way for your children to express themselves freely and stir their excitement to participate in other fall activities. All you need for this project are assorted washable 2-ounce bottles of project paints, a pack of paint brushes of assorted sizes, and, of course, stones.

You can grab a few stones from your backyard; make sure they're round, flat, and in various sizes. Stone finding and gathering can be fun for your child because it's like a mini adventure and they'll be able to create a beautiful kid-friendly DIY craft from the rocks they've collected. Once you've both found enough stones, take them inside, wash them thoroughly with antibacterial dish soap to remove dirt and bacteria, and allow 7 minutes to dry. Once the stones are dry, lay them on a flat surface and begin painting.

Get creative and let your children have fun painting scary Halloween faces of Frankenstein, pumpkins, candy corn, leaves, ghosts, and many more. You can't go wrong with this activity because the stones can be used as décor or simply as a keepsake to put with others you've collected over the years. Share this safe and kid-friendly DIY project with your family or friends, invite them to participate, and pass it down from generation to generation.

    Popsicle Stick Scarecrow

The quote, "Fall leaves and pumpkins, please," always comes to mind whenever you envision fall, but it wouldn't be complete with a scarecrow or two. That's why this next kid-friendly DIY project is perfect for all the little scarecrow lovers in your life. The materials you'll need for this project include assorted colors of construction paper, #2 pencils, safety scissors, popsicle sticks, washable school glue, and stain-free markers.

First, draw and cut out a body-shaped piece of construction paper and a circle for the face. Cut out tiny strips of yellow construction paper for hair, draw and cut out the shape of a shirt big enough to glue on the body, and do the same for the pants, belt, and shoes. At this point, you should have everything you need for your child to create the perfect kid-friendly DIY scarecrow. Now glue the various pieces of construction paper you cut out, place a popsicle stick on the bottom, and watch the scarecrow come to life. The scarecrow can be used as a decoration or puppet, but it can be anything you want if you use your imagination.

Scarecrows are an iconic part of the fall season, and you and your child can capture the desired amount of magic from the season with the scarecrows you create together. You could even tell them exciting facts about the scarecrow, such as their history and reasons for use. The possibilities are endless, so have fun, let your child's creativity shine through, and allow them to make this their own. Don't forget to have a happy fall, whatever adventures you take.

    Final Thoughts

From handprint fall trees to painted stones and scarecrows, many kid-friendly DIY projects will keep the fall season fun for everyone. Remember to make sure your child has fun and let them add their sense of creativity to these projects. These are sure to become fast favorites and maybe even start a tradition for the whole family to get excited about and cherish. Some of the best projects are the ones we create ourselves, and there are no limits to what can be made. Happy fall, everyone!
