Florida Panthers & Florida Blue Goals For Food Program Distributed 22,000 Pounds of Food

The Florida Panthers and Florida Blue have partnered up for the Goals For Food program. During the regular season, home games the Florida Panthers and Florida Blue will contribute 650 meals for every goal scored by Panthers players to cross-check food all around South Florida. All meals the meals donated are coordinated by Harvest Drive. Staff members from both organizations packed and distrusted 22,000 pounds of food to benefit 1,000 families.

In the United States alone food hunger is a problem and is still rising every year. Food hunger has surged from 34 million to 44 million from 2021 to 2022. Data from the Economic Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that food prices rose about 11% from 2021 to 2022. While food prices typically increased by around 2% in prior years, this surge was attributed to a combination of factors, including inflation and supply chain disruptions. In one year the U.S. had more than 30% of food insecurity and a 45% increase in child food insecurity. This has been the highest ever since 2014.

Florida Panthers Goals For Food Program

This Goals For Food program’s purpose is to end hunger, reduce food waste, promote healthy eating, and build community leadership. Six hundred and fifty meals were pledged for every goal scored at home. The Panthers have scored 168 of them last year, leading to more than 109,000 donated meals. The Panthers average 3.23 goals a game. The Panthers were 11th in the NHL in goal scoring with 265 goals and tied with the Winnipeg Jets in goals against with 198 goals.

The Florida Panthers Foundation has many programs throughout the organization that help the South Florida community. The Florida Panthers even have a Stache Dash 5k that helps men with cancer and research. The Panthers are very active in the community, the goal is to connect with fans and help out in the community as much as possible.
