According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Minnesota Vikings have signed former University of Minnesota Gophers All-Big Ten running back Mo Ibrahim to a contract. The terms of the contract were not initially disclosed. Ibrahim was seen at a recent team practice.

Ibrahim is returning from a season-ending hip injury he sustained last season in his short stint with the Detroit Lions. He was also rumored to be headed to Houston before they signed former Los Angeles Ram and former Viking Cam Akers.

    Ibrahim at Minnesota

Ibrahim had a star-studded career at Minnesota. After a redshirt freshman season, he rushed for 4,668 yards and 53 touchdowns in his extended tenure with the Gophers. He culminated his college career with a 1,665-yard, 20 touchdown senior season.

Awards he received during his collegiate career include twice being named an All-Big Ten First-team running back, Big Ten Running Back of the Year after his senior season, and Third-team All- American following the 2020 campaign.

Ibrahim was not selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Lions immediately after the draft. He suffered two injuries with the Lions including that hip injury. He was released by Detroit at seasons end.

    Vikings Seek Depth

The Vikings signed Ibrahim to stockpile their running back depth. The team currently has former Packers star Aaron Jones, third year speedster Ty Chandler, and kickoff specialist Kene Nwangwu on the active roster. Also in camp are veteran Myles Gaskin and second year pro DeWayne McBride who are both possible practice squad candidates.

Ibrahim has a big heart and a strong desire to compete. The odds of him making the squad are long but there are tons Minnesota fans in his corner. Hopefully, Mo can find a niche with Vikings and give Minnesota fans additional chances to cheer his athleticism and heart.
