Tyler Allgeier 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Breakout Year?

Tyler Allgeier enters the 2024 NFL season in his third year with the Atlanta Falcons. Former 5th-round draft pick, Tyler Allgeier is at a turning point in his career. Will Atlanta have a dynamic tandem duo or will the BYU alumni fall behind and see a regression in his reps?

With Cordarrelle Patterson off the roster, Allgeier is the clear-cut RB2 for the Falcons. With Bijan Robinson having lingering injuries that affected him all last season, could this be Allgeier’s chance to shine as RB1?

Tyler Allgeier 2022 and 2023 Stats and Fantasy Production

FantasyPros had Allgeier as RB44 last season averaging 8.1 fantasy points per game, he saw a drop off in production with the addition of top-ten pick Robinson. Tyler Allgeier accumulated 683 rushing yards, and 193 receiving yards, and had five touchdowns (4 rushing, 1 receiving) last season.

Allgeier was much more productive in his rookie season totaling 1,035 rushing yards, and 139 receiving yards, and found the endzone four times with Patterson on the team.

The main differences in these two seasons are Allgeier’s touches fell off in year two, 186 in year two to 210 in his rookie season. But Allgeier had a larger part as a receiving back, with 23 targets in year two and 17 in his rookie year and he also found the endzone more in year two on fewer touches.

    Tyler Allgeier 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Coming into the 2024 NFL season, FanDuel ranks Allgeier as RB45 projecting Allgeier to have 95.3 points in the 2024 NFL season. Most projections have Allgeier having an even smaller role than last season with the hopes of Bijan Robinson blossoming into the stud everyone knows he is.

Tyler Allgeier brings versatility to the table for the Atlanta Falcons, but the problem is so does first-round pick Robinson. Robinson has proved himself as an elite running back when healthy, and he can function as the role of pass catcher for newly acquired Kirk Cousins.

Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson when asked about Allgeier’s usage said “Tyler’s going to have a great role in this offense, he just wants to get on the field in any way. … Tyler is going to have a big role, and certainly, at certain points in the season, we’re going to be leaning on him.” This quote adds optimism for Allgeier’s role going into 2024.

    Final Thoughts

Tyler Allgeier enters the season with a chance to prove all of the critics wrong, and nearly everyone has Allgeier ranked between RB40-RB50. Allgeier has proven that he has what it takes to play in the NFL and be a 1,000-yard rusher, in his rookie season he had 1,035 rushing yards. The problem is the Falcons would not have taken a running back in the 2023 draft if Allgeier was going to be the number one option.

The bottom line is this, if Robinson stays healthy and becomes the young stud everyone thinks he is going to be then Allgeier will see a significant drop in production like last season. Tyler Allgeier will probably have similar numbers to last season with around 150-180 touches and maybe a couple of scores.

The big “if” is Bijan Robinson’s injuries. If Robinson continues to ride the bench due to injuries, Allgeier could see his numbers go back to the way they were in his rookie year. Allgeier has a low floor, but a high ceiling heading into 2024.
