    Braves vs Nationals Start/Sit 8-24-24

It took extra innings but the Braves got the walk-off win in the bottom of the 10th inning in the series opener with the Nationals. The Nationals lineup stayed hot at the plate with seven of the nine in their starting lineup getting a hit but not doing enough to get the win in Atlanta. The Braves have now had six of their last seven games decided by two runs or less and won four of the six as they try to stay in the playoff race.

    Braves vs Nationals Fantasy Starts

    James Wood, OF, Washington Nationals

The rookie outfielder for the nationals is starting to look more comfortable in the big leagues as he is batting .330 in the past month and .400 in the past week. The Braves are rolling out right-handed veteran pitcher Charlie Morton for the start tonight which looks good for Wood as he is hitting.303 against righties with four of his five home runs coming against them.

    Ramon Laureano, OF, Atlanta Braves

Laureano has hit in nine of the last ten games he has played, including going 3-3 in last night’s series opener against the Nationals. He is batting .302 with five home runs in the past month and he is batting.318 in the past week. Laureano’s average is worse against righties than lefties but while he is on this hot streak it would be tough to sit him, that being said there is no telling what manager Brian Snitker is thinking with managing this outfield right now but if he decides to roll with the hot bat of Laureano then you should have him in your starting lineup.

    Gio Urshela, 3B, Atlanta Braves

Urshela just joined the Braves squad this week after being cut from the Tigers on Sunday, but that whole ordeal seems to have been a wake-up call of sorts for the third baseman as he has started to wake up a bit at the plate. He has four hits in the last three games and he is 1-3 in his career against Jake Irvin who is starting tonight for Washington.

    Braves vs Nationals Fantasy Sits

    Jorge Soler, OF, Atlanta Braves

Soler is 0-5 since getting reinstated from the IL this week, and it looks like Braves manager Brian Snitker is going to put him in the lineup on the off chance he hits a home run, even if the defense in right field suffers. This week’s poor performance aside Soler is only batting .230 against righties this year and he is only 1-5 in his career against Jake Irvin, making him someone to steer clear of until he proves he’s worth starting in fantasy.

    Rasiel Iglesias,CP, Atlanta Braves

Iglesias is one of the best closers in the game currently and before the 10th inning of last night’s game, he hadn’t allowed a baserunner in 38 consecutive outs. Sitting Iglesias has nothing to do with skill or matchup but rather the fact that he has thrown four innings in the past four days including two innings last night likely making him unavailable for tonight’s game even if it is a save situation and with AJ Minter out, so if you need that pitching slot in your lineup its probably safe to put Iglesias on the bench for the night.

    Braves vs Nationals Pitching Matchup

    Charlie Morton RHP (7-7, 4.29 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 127 Ks, 126 IP) vs Jake Irvin (9-10, 3.81 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 127 Ks, 151 IP)

Charlie Morton is having a down year in his age-40 season but his stats have been shockingly even. He is 7-7 overall, 4-4 at home,3-3 away, 2-2 in the past month and 1-1 in the past 15 days. Morton has three quality starts in his last six and considering he went 5.1 innings only allowing one run in his last outing, it seems he is due for a rough start if we are following trends. The Nationals lineup has been hot as of late which doesn’t look good for Morton but the crafty veteran can’t be counted out as he is usually capable of at least keeping the Braves in the game.

Jake Irvin has allowed 15 runs in his four starts in August, splitting the decisions in those starts and ending up with a 2-2 record. Much like the pitcher he is facing on the other side Charlie Morton, Irving’s record has been very even going 2-2 this month and 3-2 in July. Nationals manager Dave Martinez has proven that he will let Irvin go 5-7 innings even when giving up a few runs but after losing the first game in extra innings when they thought they should have won might change how long Martinez lets Irvin go if the braves bats get hot against him tonight.
