Various sources are now reporting that Chelsea has agreed to terms with Napoli for the transfer of striker Romelu Lukaku, following extensive negotiations between the two clubs. According to transfer experts Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano, the team has reportedly settled on a deal to pay Chelsea 30 million euros upfront, with an additional 15 million euros in potential add-ons for Lukaku, who previously played for Roma and Inter on loan.
The blue of London will very soon be switched up with the blue of Naples. The agreement was reached after Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna met with Chelsea officials on Friday, marking the second such meeting this week. During this meeting, the club demonstrated their willingness to offer more than the initial 30 million euros.
Chelsea had also been offered a share of any future sell-on fee as an alternative to additional bonuses, but it appears they have now settled on a substantial add-on package. Romelu Lukaku had previously agreed on personal terms with Napoli weeks ago and is now set to sign a three-year contract with the club, extending until the summer of 2027.
Romelu Lukaku at Napoli
Lukaku has spent the past two seasons on loan in Italy, initially with Inter and then with Roma. He boasts an impressive record in Serie A, having scored 70 goals in 129 matches. With Chelsea’s large squad and Enzo Maresca’s indication that some players will not be included in the selection, Lukaku is eager to finalize a transfer away from the club quickly.
Romelu Lukaku is about to take up a big responsibility in the form of signing for Napoli. He replaces Oshimen, who has delivered a lot of quality performances. The same standards will be set up and hoped to be achieved and fulfilled by Romelu Lukaku. The upcoming season is going to be very crucial for the Belgian international.
Financial Criteria Explained
Romelu Lukaku will join Napoli as the third Serie A team of his career, following a Scudetto-winning season with Inter under Antonio Conte. He also returned to San Siro on loan after his 113 million euro transfer to Chelsea in 2021. Last season, he was on loan with Roma, scoring 21 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions. The deal, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, is set at 30 million euros with add-ons up to 15 million euros, potentially bringing the total to 45 million euros (38 million pounds), aligning with the exit clause negotiated last summer. Romelu Lukaku will now join Napoli with a warm reception from Antonio Conte awaiting him in Naples.
However, Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sport Italia indicate that the agreement involves a €30 million fee plus a 30% sell-on clause, but no extra bonuses.
