US Open Schedule is Out: Check When and Where Top Stars Feature

The 2024 US Open had been scheduled to kick off on Monday, as crowds and tennis enthusiasts gathered at Flushing Meadows in Queens, New York. This final major tournament of the tennis calendar is also significant because it marks the end of a fairly hectic stretch in tennis.

A tight schedule from Wimbledon in mid-July until the 2024 Paris Olympics made many of the world's top players have a short time gearing up for the US Open. The tournament is often played in scorching conditions under the New York summer sun. Who will lift the trophy this year?

Dramatic Men's Single US Open Final Possibilities

With the main-draw action to be held from 26 August to 8 September, the US Open will feature the ATP Tour’s top stars including world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, defending champion Novak Djokovic, and Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic will enter the US Open on the heels of an Olympic gold medal that completed his career Golden Slam. The Serb has not competed since his triumph on the Paris clay but has repeatedly proven that he can play his way into form on a new surface at the Slams. The draw has set up the possibility of meeting the contender from Spain, Alcaraz at the final.

As the winner of the previous two majors, Carlos Alcaraz is pursuing the impossible summer trifecta. If Alcaraz becomes the champion of the US Open, he will at least come closer to what Rafael Nadal achieved in 2010 when he won a Grand Slam on three different surfaces.

But Alcaraz doesn’t come in with much momentum, having lost to Djokovic in the gold medal match in Paris. He also had a hard journey after losing to Gael Monfils, on the hard courts of Cincinnati. Still, his energy and effusiveness are such a good match for the US Open crowd.

It’s been a quiet year too for Djokovic. The defending champion was struggling with a knee injury. The only title he had was a breathtaking Olympic gold. Both Djokovic and Alcaraz will begin the U.S. Open against players who emerged from this week’s qualifying tournament in New York. Djokovic is scheduled to play on Monday, followed by Alcaraz the next day.

Tough Time for Two Former Women’s Champions

Two past U.S. Open women’s champions who missed the tournament last year could face a tough time even getting out of the first round on their return. Both Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu will start their journey with a difficult match.

Osaka, who won two of her four major titles in Flushing Meadows and returned this season from maternity leave, is scheduled against No. 10 seed Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion.

Raducanu, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, is scheduled to face American Sofia Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open winner, in another first-round matchup of past major champions. In the next round, Raducanu will possibly face Cincinnati Open finalist, Jessica Pegula.

    US Open New Champions Possibilities

The US Open often makes new champions, but will that happen this year? In the men's draw, we have the top seed Jannik Sinner embroiled in a doping controversy. Followed by the second seed Djokovic, the defending champion, who has not won any tour titles this year. The third seed, Alcaraz is the winner of the two previous majors but having a tough time with a two match losing streak.

On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek has stripped back the expectations for this year’s US Open. The world No. 1 is going to try to focus on getting everything step by step. If she could make it to the quarterfinal, she would possibly face Jessica Pegula.

So, it is a good time to enjoy this last major tournament of the 2024 season and remember the schedule. The 2024 US Open begins Monday, August 26, and will run for nearly two weeks, with the men's singles final concluding the event on Sunday, September 8.
