Reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan are looking to secure their first win of the season when they host Lecce at San Siro on Saturday. Inter, who were held to a late draw by Genoa in their season opener, will be keen to bounce back with a victory. Despite Marcus Thuram scoring twice in his Serie A debut, Inter couldn’t secure all three points against a resilient Genoa, who equalized late in the match.

Thuram, who had a back-and-forth battle with Genoa’s goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, initially thought he had scored the winning goal, but it was only confirmed after a VAR review. However, a late penalty, awarded after Yann Bisseck handled the ball, allowed former AC Milan player Junior Messias to level the score.

Since wrapping up the Scudetto last season, Inter Milan have drawn their last three matches, so coach Simone Inzaghi will be eager to see his team return to winning ways. Historically, Inter Milan has a strong record in their opening home games, winning nine out of the last 11, including the past five seasons.

Against Lecce at San Siro, Inter Milan’s record is impressive: 17 wins from 18 Serie A encounters, with 12 clean sheets and only six goals conceded. Lecce has managed just one win in this fixture and has never scored more than once away from Inter Milan. Lecce will be looking for their first league goal of the season.

Lecce has struggled, failing to score in their last four Serie A matches, which is their longest drought in over a year, and they have not won any of their last six games. Although they advanced in the Coppa Italia with a late goal from Nikola Krstovic, they were convincingly beaten by Atalanta on the opening day.

Luca Gotti, who took over Lecce’s managerial role last season and kept them in Serie A, faces a tough start to the new season. Inter’s summer signing Mehdi Taremi made his debut as a substitute last week and is expected to partner with Thuram up front, while captain Lautaro Martinez is sidelined with an injury.

Another recruit, Piotr Zielinski, might feature, although Stefan de Vrij and Tajon Buchanan are still unavailable. For Inter Milan, Denzel Dumfries is competing with Matteo Darmian for the right-back spot, and Benjamin Pavard may replace Yann Bisseck in the defense.

Lecce is almost at full strength for their trip, missing only Joan Gonzalez and long-term absentee Mohamed Kaba. New signings Kialonda Gaspar, Balthazar Pierret, and Tete Morente, who all started last week, may keep their places.
