Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens Dominate A-Town Down Under

SmackDown saw a sneak peek of what could be a major shift in the dynamics of Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. These two partners have known each other for a long time and they respect each other a lot.

They are planning to have a battle against each other in the official WWE title at Bash in Berlin. This match will be based on respect but in this recent match, it seemed like they are growing a little animosity between each other.

Intentions of A-Town Down Under

Grayson Waller and Austin Theory, who have their problems as partners, failed to defeat Rhodes and Owens on Friday night and couldn’t split them. However, they did express some concerns about future conflicts of interest between them.

It will be interesting to see how this friendship of Cody Rhodes and Owens will stand after only nine days until their title clash. SmackDown this week also featured two title bouts. For the first time The Bloodline was going to defend their WWE tag team championship belts and the United States title was also at stake.

Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens defeated A-Town Down Under (Theory and Waller) on pinfall after a powerbomb on Waller by Owens. Rhodes performed very well even though Owens ensured that their team won the match. Owens entered the ring after a hot tag, performed a Swanton bomb to Waller, and then hit him with a powerbomb to win the match.

Trust Between Cody Rhodes and Kevin

Immediately after the match it looked like Owens was going to strike Cody Rhodes with the undisputed WWE title but instead passed the title to Rhodes. Whereas Cody appeared to be apprehensive, Owens, on the other hand, appeared arrogant and boasted at his opponents. As expected, Owens came out as the winner and Owens lifted the hand of Rhodes as a signal that he had won the contest.

The fast approach to developing Cody Rhodes vs. Owens takes the buy-in out of the match, making it almost impossible to develop a deep-rooted interest in the match. But all those concerned must be commended for attempting to come up with something more exciting than just a champion vs challenger. Even when Cody Rhodes tried to trust him, Waller became the one that got into his head.

Owens, who has betrayed his team numerous times, was at his best in the last segment. His body language was perfect, unsure of what to expect from the next move. It’s not like most wrestlers are going to be winning awards for their thespian skills, and sometimes it can be all too much. It was quite hard for Rhodes to understand whether Owens was planning to attack him or not, and this created a disturbed situation.

Final Thoughts

Kevin Owens has deceived his friends a lot of times in a very critical situation. Cody Rhodes will have to watch every step of his teammate.
