Boston Red Sox Rafael Devers With Historic Feat

In the illustrious history of the Boston Red Sox, Third Baseman Devers etched his name into the history books. With a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, Devers became the only player in Boston Red Sox history to hit 200 home runs before his 28th birthday. Devers does not turn 28 until October 24.

Before Devers, the fastest player to hit 200 home runs was Jim Rice who did so at 28 and 62 days old. The historic day from Devers was not enough as the Boston Red Sox lost 7-5 and got swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend. Devers is putting together another solid regular season hitting .293 with 28 home runs and 80 RBI. He is 14th in the league in batting average, 11th in home runs, and sixth in OPS. Will Devers be able to keep playing well as the Red Sox fight for a playoff spot down the home stretch of the regular season?

    Rafael Devers Career Summary

Devers made his MLB debut with the Boston Red Sox in 2017 and has been one of the best players in the league since. He is a three-time MLB All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and winner of the 2018 World Series. Devers is a career .282 hitter with 200 home runs and 635 RBI.

    Boston Red Sox Season Summary

Boston(67-62) is in third place in the American League East and is 4.5 games back of the third and final American League Wild Card spot. A rough stretch of games has sent the Boston Red Sox tumbling down the standings. Their playoff odds sit at 24% now according to ESPN. They have dropped seven of their last 11 games. The Red Sox have been led by a strong offense this season. They are fourth in batting average, sixth in home runs, and sixth in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Devers who leads the team in nearly every important offensive category.

Boston's pitching staff has been the weaker part of their team this season. They are 21st in ERA, 18th in strikeouts, and 23rd in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Brayan Bello leads the club in wins while Tanner Houck leads them in ERA and strikeouts. Houck is 11th in the league with a 3.23 ERA. Closer Kenley Jansen is also eighth in Major League Baseball with 24 saves.

    Red Sox Upcoming Schedule

The Boston Red Sox begin a four-game series at home with the Toronto Blue Jays tomorrow night. Boston faces an uphill battle to make the MLB Playoffs for only the second time in the last six seasons. Devers will need to keep up his torrid pace and anchor a Red Sox offense that has been a strength all season.
