The visitors could have made two but they lacked the clinical edge. In the second half, it was a different ball game, as Wolfsburg came out with a better response than in the first half. A foul on Tomas gave them a penalty. Lovro Majer wasted no time in restoring parity. The Croatian soon took the lead for Wolfsburg, after a defensive error from Kim Jae.
The Korean lost possession to Wimmer who found Majer, who made two. Bayern Munich had to claw their way back and an own goal from Kaminski helped them secure the parity. In the 82nd minute, a sublime move from Kane helped eventually release Gnabry. The German wasted no time in finding the net to give Bayern back the lead and the eventual winner.
Kompany’s Assessment of the Game
Vincent Kompany spoke his mind about the game saying: “You have a plan before coming into a game. However, the other team will adapt and make changes to disrupt your plan. I was really happy with the first half other than we should maybe have scored 1-2 more goals. It was something we could build on”.
He continued on the second-half flaws displayed by his team: “In the second half, I’ve seen Ralph’s teams for many years, they come out and fight. They score after 20 seconds and then you have to prepare yourself for a battle. At the end of the day, I want to highlight the outstanding mentality of the team. It was a tough away game and a very good win”
Kompany on the Ream’s Mentality
The Belgian spoke about the team’s mentality and Kim Jae’s mistake;
“I enjoyed my first game as Bundesliga coach. We were dominant in the first half and didn’t concede any chances. The start of the second half wasn’t good. We conceded twice, but in the end, the mentality was good and that’s why we won the game. I played football long enough and know that you can lose or draw in such a game. The fact we won shows that the mentality was there, even though not everything was perfect. We have to say that honestly, the mentality of my team was great. I don’t want to talk about Minjae’s mistake, I want to talk about the reaction. And it was good, from everyone”.
