Fantasy Football Sleepers 2024: Chase Brown, Others Could Prove Valuable

Every fantasy football manager looks for that diamond in the rough that their fellow league mates have overlooked. These five players highlighted could have major upside and outperform ADP.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown has the potential to provide a boost to your fantasy team’s roster in the late rounds. Other sleepers include Matthew Stafford, Jake Ferguson, Jameson Williams, and Rico Dowdle. These players could win your home leagues for fantasy football in 2024.

    Chase Brown

Chase Brown was almost non-existent last season after a hamstring injury. When he was healthy, Brown did not receive many reps due to him being behind Joe Mixon in the depth chart. The second-year running back could see more opportunities this year with Mixon signing with the Houston Texans.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed Zach Moss as their starting running back, but reports have said the second-year back has been getting a lot of reps from the first team. Brown has also shown he is a decent receiving back who averaged 11.6 yards per reception last year. His ADP is 122.5, so taking a chance on him in the late rounds could be fruitful even if he is just a receiving back.

    Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford is coming off a solid season as a fantasy quarterback averaging 16.2 PPR fantasy points. He also went through most of the season without a fully healthy Cooper Kupp but found a new go-to target with Puka Nacua. Stafford could be in for a stellar season if Kupp and Kyren Williams, who both missed four games last season, can stay healthy.

The veteran QB will have a host of weapons at his disposal this season and the facts back that up. Kupp is a former triple crown winner, Nacua is coming off a record-breaking rookie season in receptions and Williams had a formidable season receiving the ball as well catching 32 passes for 206 yards with 3 touchdowns.

Stafford’s ADP on ESPN is 163.2 making him the 21st QB off the board. This puts him drafted behind almost every start-worthy QB other than Baker Mayfield. So, his value could be league-winning.

    Jake Ferguson

Jake Ferguson does not look anywhere close to a flashy pick but showed his worth in the Dallas Cowboy’s offense last season. Dak Prescott targeted Ferguson 102 times in 2023 while also looking for him in the red zone often. In his second season, Ferguson was targeted more in the red zone than Travis Kelce. With a CeeDee Lamb holdout looming, Ferguson looks like a perfect pickup for the price.

Ferguson is currently the 10th tight end off the board, which does not make him sound like a sleeper, but his ADP is 100.2. To put that into perspective, the 9th TE drafted before him, David Njoku is going at 86.3.

    Jameson Williams

Now, Jameson Williams is the opposite of Ferguson. He is all flash but has not proven himself as a player who can be trusted in a fantasy lineup. Williams has had a rocky start to his career with injury and suspension, but his athletic upside is too great to overlook. He also has the opportunity to flourish while being the third option behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta.

There should be plenty of chances for him to take the top off the defense with his blazing speed while they focus their strength on Brown and LaPorta. Williams’ ADP is 131.5 which could make him a perfect candidate to be a late-round pick in most fantasy drafts that looks genius later.

    Rico Dowdle

Rico Dowdle is another Dallas Cowboy who looks primed for a breakout season. Tony Pollard packed his bags for Tennessee in the off-season, which cleared the way for Dowdle to take over a majority of the rushing and passing work. Yes, Ezekiel Elliott has returned, but he has aged out of being the bell-cow back he used to be. Elliot may be liable to take some goal-line work, but that is not where Dowdle thrives.

Dowdle showed to be serviceable last season as a backup running back, but his receiving skills will be his upside. Dowdle hauled in 17 receptions for an average of 8.5 yards per reception with 2 touchdowns. His ADP is coming in at 164.9, which could be a great discount on a player who could be taking a majority of the snaps in Dallas. At worst, he will be receiving back on a team that ranked third in total passing yards in 2023.
