Sid Vicious, WWF and WCW Pro Wrestler, Dies at 63

Sid Vicious, who tore down the wrestling world with a mixture of size and grit during his career, died on Monday after battling cancer. Vicious, whose real name was Sid Eudy, was 63 years old.

During his runs in World Wrestling Federation/World Wrestling Entertainment and World Championship Wrestling, fans were drawn to his abilities in and out of the ring. Sid Vicious, who also was known as Sycho Sid and Sid Justice, was WCW and WWF world champion at different times.

Gunnar Eddy, Sid’s son, went on Facebook on Monday and broke the news about his father’s death. “In Memory of My Father, Sid Eudy. Dear friends and family, I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years,” Gunnar wrote, according to Wrestling Inc. “He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon. Thank you for your support.”

An outpouring of love and memories filled up on social media as word spread about Sid Vicious and his death.

“Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW,” Booker T. Huffman, WWE Hall of Famer and NXT announcer, wrote on X/Twitter. “His impact on this business was undeniable, and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time. #RIPSid”.

TNA Wrestling‘s X/Twitter account posted a remembrance for Vicious, too. The post read, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the legendary Sid Vicious. A true powerhouse and unforgettable force in the ring, his legacy will forever be remembered in the world of professional wrestling.”

It would not be a shock to see WWE pay its respects to Vicious during their Monday Night Raw telecast on Monday night.

Vicious scared the heck out of pro wrestling fans during his runs in the 1990s and 2000s. In securing two WWF titles, he beat Bret “The Hitman” Hart and “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels to do so. He beat Michaels in Madison Square Garden, where New York City fans cheered for him. Yes, even though he was a heel going into the match.

Vicious was a star for both major pro wrestling companies at the time. He was one of a rare few who reached the main events at WrestleMania and Starrcade. Vicious debuted in 1987. Eudy’s moniker changed between companies as WWF/WWE Chairman Vince McMahon didn’t want his talent to bring their other in-ring names to his business. Therefore, Sid Vicious became Sid Justice and Sycho Sid in the WWF.

He held the WWF and WWE world championships twice each. Those promotions believed in him and his in-ring work, which was highlighted by one of the business’ best power bombs. Vicious lost his two main event matches at WrestleManias to Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker. In 2000, at the last WCW Starrcade, Vicious lost the WCW World Championship to Scott Steiner.

Vicious Solid In Ring, On Mic

In 2001, Eudy suffered a broken leg while wrestling Steiner. He made a few match appearances between 2004 and 2012. But his last in-ring match action took place in 2017 for an independent promotion in Canada.

Vicious could do solid promo work, making grimacing faces and talking about what he’s going to do to his opponents. With his size, Vicious also had the ability to move around the ring. He also spent some time in ECW, making memorable entrances. Fans may remember his catchphrase, “I am master and ruler of the world!”

Marc Mero, one-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, shared his thoughts, too. “So sad to hear that friend and wrestling superstar Sid Eudy (Sid Vicious & Sid Justice) has passed away at 63 from cancer,” Mero posted on X/Twitter. “He was one of the first wrestlers I wrestled when I was trying out for WCW. What a great guy. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and his millions of fans.”

Eudy had expressed his desire to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame later in his life. That, of course, did not happen during his lifetime. Fans have been asking that this change, though. Sid Vicious and his menacing style are beloved by millions of fans who grew up watching him. On Monday, they remember the big man and what he provided to the pro wrestling business.
