The Miami Hurricanes are starting the NCAA season against the Florida Gators. Miami is ranked 19 and while Florida is unranked. The Hurricanes will be in the Swamp visiting the Gators in this interstate rival matchup. This will be a close matchup with Miami having the slight with -2.5 point favorite and the over/under is 54.5. Even though it is the start of the college football season there is a lot at stake already in this first game for both teams. Will Billy Napier lead Florida to an upset win ? or will Miami take the win and prove they are still a good ranked team from last season.
The Miami Hurricanes have a new quarterback who transferred from Washington State; Cam Ward. Cam Ward has been looking spectacular in Miami’s Spring ball and camps. The Hurricanes will also have the top receivers in the ACC back this season . ESPN analyst Greg McElroy has Ward picked for the greatest impact on a team this fall.
Cam Ward’s stats for the 2023 season at Washington State he had a QBR rating of 65.2% and he throw for 3,735 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Florida Gators
Head Coach Billy Napier is under the gun this season in Gainesville. Napier has had two losing seasons with the Gators and if the Gators find themselves in a hole this year again, Napier might be heading out the door.
Starting quarterback for the Gators is Graham Mertz. Last season Mertz had a QBR rating of 69.3% and threw for 2,903 yards, 20 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Prediction
The season hasn’t even started yet and the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators find themselves in a big game at the start of the season. Either team losing this game and its not looking good for the rest of season. It wil be a tough road ahead. Not only is the game important for the Gators its also for their Head coach Billy Napier needing to prove he can have a winning season in Gainesville. Florida’s schedule is not easy after the Miami game, they have A&M, Mississippi State and Tennessee to start the season.
The Miami Hurricanes are favored by 2.5 points which isn’t a lot of room error. Miami was good team last year but they always found a way to give up games at the end. Miami is going to look past that this upcoming season and look forward to closing out games instead of losing them. With Miami’s new transfer QB in Cam Ward and having the two best receivers in the ACC, Miami should be able to come out with a win at the Swamp.
