Kamaru Usman Calls Chimaev Loss an Eye-Opening Experience

The last fight of Kamaru Usman in UFC took place in October 2023 with the opponent of Khamzat Chimaev. Khamzat won the fight against Usman but it was not easy for Chimaev. Chimaev dominated the first round being on Usman’s back most of the time and either throwing punches or going for the choke.

The famous African fighter took serious action in the second round, but that was not the only round that Kamaru Usman gave him a tough time but even in the third round, Chimaev suffered. Kamaru targeted one of the most sensitive parts of the body, after which it became difficult for Khamzat to overcome, but even after Chimaev's legs were targeted again and again he rose victorious.

Kamaru Usman Ready For Five Rounds

Even though Kamaru Usman has participated in 10 consecutive five-round UFC fights, he did not want to fight the Borz in a five-round match. He was not able to confirm that would he be able to stand in front of Chimaev for five rounds. When the African fighter was asked about the confidence level he had against Borz, so he said that he had low confidence when fighting against Chimaev. This was a shock to him and he had to work hard to make sure that he recovered his confidence.

He also recalled what his coach Trevor Wittman said, who said that after the fight Usman is one of the best when it comes to evolving in a fight:

"I wasn’t training as I would be if I had a fight and I went through a camp and so, with that being said, I didn’t trust myself in that sense. So then you get in a fight and I realize I haven’t fought a three-round fight in, I don’t remember the last time I fought a three-round fight."

Usman explained that it would be hard for him to adjust to the results because he trained for the five rounds. "So, I’ve built myself up to get in a position where you can build throughout five rounds. And so now that it’s not that, it was very very difficult for me to be okay with that result." One might get the impression that Usman needed a lot of time to restore his physical and psychological conditions after the loss of the UFC welterweight title. On his return, he could take the title shot again, or face Chimaev in a rematch fight with a five-round bout.

Kamaru and the "Borz" had a fascinating fight and although Kamaru Usman had low confidence, he proved himself to be a tough fighter. The rematch of these great champions would be really interesting to watch and would attract a lot of fans.
