Shakib Al Hasan Receives Fine in Team Victory

Shakib Al Hasan has now run into further trouble with the ICC. The backdrop is the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Rawalpindi. The seasoned Bangladeshi all-rounder was fined 10% of his match fee and received a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

Such situations, where the player loses their temperament and behavior spontaneously brings about a disturbance viewed with sharp eyes by the officials, ensuring that the match continues peacefully.

ICC's Decision

The ICC, therefore, imposed a sanction on Shakib on Monday purview to Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This pertains to the throwing of cricket equipment at or in the proximity of any player, team official, match official, umpire, referee, or referee support personnel involved in the match during the event. The decision taken by the ICC clearly shows how seriously it takes such a breach of conduct.

Bangladesh fared even worse when it came to other ramifications besides individual fines. The prime example was with regards to the slow over rate during the Test match. Pakistan was found to be six overs behind and accordingly had six WTC points deducted while being fined 30% of their match fees. They remain eighth in the WTC standings, having won two and lost four of their six Tests so far.

Position of Bangladesh

Bangladesh, too, fell prey to a setback, despite their historic win over Pakistan by 10 wickets. They were found to be three overs short of the required over rate and thus lost three points in the WTC. Thus, they found themselves going from being the front-runner in the standings before the series began all they down to seventh, a step behind South Africa.

Al Hasan stole the thunder in what was otherwise a great show by Bangladesh. Given the extraordinary talent he has, he has set high standards, as this incident is one of those very rare blemishes in his career. Therefore, in his future endeavors, cool headedness will play a very crucial role for him to continue upholding the spirit of sportsmanship which is expected of a cricketer at his level.

Shakib Al Hasan's fine and demerit point reminded us of the fact that there is a necessity for discipline and having respect on the field. It is unfortunate, but it gives a chance for players and teams own up to their conduct and aspire to become better sportsmen.
