Dalvin Cook will start his eighth year as a pro with the Cowboys, after a brief stint with the Jets. He will be sharing the backfield with Ezekiel “Zeke” Elliot and Dak Prescott at QB. Cook’s arrival adds a new layer to their ground game.

Cook’s rushing game is known for his physicality, strength, speed, and toughness, this goes well with Zeke´s playing style and what the Cowboys have historically liked to do in offense with RBs.

Regarding schematics, the Cowboys might use him in a variety of roles. He could even be RB1 as Zeke has also struggled as of late. Cook could be a first and second-down back or could also be given the role of third-down back. This rotational approach could lead to a curious offense, however, Cook´s role depends on the Cowboys’ creativity.

Dalvin Cook 2022 and 2023 Production

In 2022, Dalvin Cook´s career was as solid as they come, he had come off several 1,000-yard seasons and continues with the trend. According to ProFootballReference, Cook finished the season with 1,173 rushing yards, 8 TDs, and 39 grabs for 295 receiving yards and 2 TDs.

Cook’s 2023 numbers took a huge hit when he moved to the Jets, due to Rodgers in the 3rd play of the 1st game of the year. The Jets were a disaster the rest of the year offensively speaking and Cook was unable to fulfill expectations. He finished the year with a measly 214 yards.

All signs point to him still being a high-caliber RB and you should expect a significant increase in production when compared to last year. However, it all comes down to scheme fit and use he is given.

Dalvin Cook is a player to look out for. While the talent and expectations for something spectacular are there, there are still many questions about how things will unfold given his role in the Cowboys. All things considered, giving him a chance, would be a wise choice worthy of a mid to late-round selection.
