Josh Oliver’s Role in Minnesota

Josh Oliver, has been a journeyman through his first 5 years in the NFL, playing in Jacksonville, Baltimore, and now Minnesota. For his 6th year as a pro, he will take on the TE2 role behind T.J. Hockenson, who will be TE1. Oliver is known for his strong blocking skills and the occasional reception. However, Oliver´s bread and butter are blocking plays, and for this reason, he might not see such a protagonistic role in the offense.

Keep in mind Oliver is mainly used in helping with the run game with his blocking prowess while also providing a safety valve for QB Sam Darnold on the rare occasion.

Josh Oliver’s fantasy value for the 2024 season is largely dependent on his utilization and the Vikings’ offensive strategy. However, if one were to take historical data as a basis to think about his production, one might say his role would continue to be mainly blocking, and could see few opportunities in the passing game.

If Oliver continues to improve, there is a small chance he could see more action and by extension, have a better output.
