Tyrone Tracy Jr. 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Tyrone Tracy Jr. was drafted in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New York Giants from the University of Purdue. The former Boilermaker has impressed early on in the preseason where it has been speculated that he could be the RB1 in New York in short order. However, the ankle injury that he suffered has him with a questionable diagnosis heading into Week 1. Let’s look at Tracy Jr.’s 2023 production at Purdue.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. had 113 carries for 716 yards and 8 touchdowns with 19 receptions for 132 yards in his sixth year of college last season. The former Boilermaker was ranked fourth in yards after contact per attempt and fifth in elusive rating (per PFF).

Those stats translate to an outstanding tackle-breaking ability for a guy who is still getting accumulated to the position after playing wide receiver for so long. This should have some eyebrows raised for his 2024 projections in fantasy especially if he ends up taking Devin Singletary‘s spot as the RB1.

Let’s look at his 2024 projections and see how this young stud fares in fantasy in 2024.

    Tyrone Tracy Jr. 2024 Projections

ESPN has Tyrone Tracy Jr. as the RB62 in their fantasy projections in 2024 with the following stat line projections: 73 carries for 306 yards and 2 touchdowns and 22 receptions for 150 yards and 1 touchdown for a total of 84.23 fantasy points.

ESPN potentially thinks that Tracy Jr. will be the 3rd-down running back for the Giants this season due to his ability to catch the football. With his background that makes the most sense for him because he played receiver for the longest time, but his ceiling could potentially bring him the RB1 role in New York in due time if he remains impressive.

Meanwhile, Fantasy Pros has Tracy Jr. as the RB67 in their ECR ratings with the Giants having the 18th-easiest schedule for running backs this season. The stat line projections that Fantasy Pros has for Tracy Jr. are 85 fantasy points with 102 carries 396 yards and 3 touchdowns.

    Final Thoughts

Tyrone Tracy Jr. is going to be one of those late-round picks that turns into a stud in a couple of seasons if used correctly. As for 2024 however, Tracy Jr.’s fantasy value isn’t going to be the greatest out there unless he takes over for Devin Singletary down the road as the clear RB1. After an impressive preseason, Eric Gray is also in the backfield as well.

Tracy Jr. will get opportunities because the Giants will be a developing team that won’t win that many games in 2024, so keep an eye on him in the waiver wires if he starts to go off for ridiculous numbers each week. Tyrone Tracy Jr. might also be a good rookie dynasty play especially if the Giants move on from Singletary after 2024.
