    Braves vs Phillies Start/Sit 8-28-24

The Braves head to Philly in a divisional face-off that could help determine the winner of the NL East. Fresh off a sweep of the Twins it looks like the Braves bats are finally heating up and showing remnants of the 2023 offense.

The Phillies are on the opposite end of the spectrum and have been ice-cold the past few weeks. Can Philly close the door completely on the Braves winning the division or will the Braves continue to stay hot and take the series win in the Phillies’ house?

    Braves vs Phillies Fantasy Starts

    Alec Bohm, 3B, Philadelphia Phillies

Bohm has been cold as of late, only hitting .143 in the past week and .234 in the past 15 days. The entire Phillies team has been on a massive cold streak lately but if they have any hope of staving off the surging Atlanta Braves then the whole team is going to have to contribute. This starts with Bohm who is having a solid year and is batting .464 against Charlie Morton in his career.

    Bryce Harper, 1B, Philadelphia Phillies

Harper is adding another fantastic year to his already-decorated career. He is hitting .292 in the past week and has a career average of .407 against Charlie Morton. You’re already probably starting him in your fantasy lineups but tonight is no exception against the aging Morton.

    Ramon Laureano, OF, Atlanta Braves

Laureano is one of the hottest Braves hitters batting over .300 in the past month. He is only 1-4 against Christopher Sanchez but if Snitker puts him in the lineup tonight then you want to follow suit.

    Braves vs Phillies Fantasy Sits

Michael Harris II, OF, Atlanta Braves

Harris has had his moments at the plate since his return from the IL but he hasn’t shown any consistency. He is only batting .158 in the past week and .222 in the past month. To add to his cold streak he is 0-7 with 5 strikeouts in his career against Christopher Sanchez. If you have a better option, you should avoid having Harris in your starting lineup tonight.

    Nick Castellanos, OF, Philadelphia Phillies

Castellanos is having a good season, despite being cold lately with the rest of the Phillies lineup. Even with his good season, he is only batting .056 against Charlie Morton in his career. Add that to his mediocre .250 average over the past week, Castellanos should not be started if at all possible.

    Trea Turner, SS, Philadelphia Phillies

Turner is having a great season as usual for the all-star shortstop. The decision to sit Turner relies solely on the matchup and not on the talent. Traditionally he is a Braves killer, as he has spent most of his career in the same division as Atlanta but Morton is one of the few pitchers he seems to struggle against. Turner’s career average against Charlie is a mere .150 in a 20-at-bat sample size. While Turner can go off, starting him is inadvisable tonight with the matchup.

    Braves vs Phillies Pitching Matchup

    Charlie Morton RHP (7-7, 4.24 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 133 Ks, 131.2 IP) vs Christopher Sanchez (9-9, 3.51 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 116 Ks, 146.1 IP)

Charlie Morton has earned three straight wins in a row, while not allowing more than two runs in any of those starts. After getting rocked against the Brewers earlier in the month, Morton has strung together a few solid outings for the Braves.

The question is can he do it for a fourth straight time against a struggling Phillies lineup? After getting the shutout against Houston and with the division rival Braves coming to town I’m sure the Phillies will be dialed in, trying to close the door on any chance the Braves have of winning the division.

Christopher Sanchez’s last outing was against this same Braves team a week ago. He took the loss that night while giving up nine hits but only giving up three runs. While Sanchez’s starts seem to be hot and cold it seems he is good to go 5-6 innings but may give up 3-4 runs again.

I’d keep Sanchez out of my starting lineup for this game because if the Phillies lineup stays cold at the plate he won’t get the run support to earn the win no matter how well he pitches.
