Life is Strange: Double Exposure Announced at Gamescom 2024

Gamescom 2024 revealed trailers and gameplay for numerous games. The popular Life is Strange franchise also revealed Life is Strange: Double Exposure as the latest installment in the franchise. Featuring the return of a fan-favorite character, Double Exposure is set to release on October 29, 2024, on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X and S. The trailer showcases the general storyline of the game as well as the gameplay overview. Here is everything that was shown.

Story of Double Exposure

Max Caulfield, the main character of the original Life is Strange is coming back in Double Exposure and is the protagonist of the game. The story develops when Safi Llewellyn Fayyad, a new friend of Max is murdered on the grounds of Caledon University. Following this traumatic event, Max discovers that her already existing time manipulation powers have changed. Now able to part the veil between realities, Max uses her powers to pulse and shift between the timelines in an attempt to save her friend and bring the killer to justice.

Gameplay Overview

The gameplay of Life is Strange: Double Exposure is based on Max’s new powers to shift between realities. Using her fingers, she can create dimensional echoes of other timelines seeing what is happening there while remaining in her original timeline. Max can also see the shimmer in various areas of the game which she can interact with to enter the second timeline. Parting the veil between these two realities, it is Max’s objective to investigate and save the life of her friend.

There are different aspects in which these powers will be used in the game. The examples shown in the trailer include using the powers to borrow objects that are lost in one timeline but are present in the other. Revealing secrets from the opposite timelines, which Max can use against the character in the present timeline.

The trailer also focused on different characters in the game by showcasing that each character will have diverging personalities in different timelines. Everyone at Caledon University is hiding secrets and only Max can uncover their secrets thanks to her reality warping powers.

Accessibility Features

The trailer acknowledges that it might be quite complicated to keep track of which timeline Max is currently in. Therefore, to help the players they have introduced accessibility options that can be toggled on from the settings. These tell the players which reality they are in thanks to an icon on the top of the screen. Other than that, there are various visual cues as well. The timeline in which Safi is alive will appear more lively and cheerful.
