The 1967 live-action Doctor Dolittle movie starred Rex Harrison as the titular doctor with the ability to speak to animals. The film showcased Dolittle tending to his patients while dealing with ignorant people and working to finance his expedition for a rare sea snail. A musical, the film had many memorable songs performed by Harrison, Samantha Eggar, Anthony Newley, and Richard Attenborough, among others.
The second live-action adaptation, starring Eddie Murphy as the doctor, was released in 1998. This version retained aspects from the previous film but had a more modern twist. This version was a moderate success and spawned a small film series. The doctor would return in 2020's Dolittle, starring Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr. Like the Eddie Murphy version, the movie featured aspects from the original film with twists. Despite some censoring of content that hasn't necessarily aged well, the three Doctor Dolittle books are enjoyable and perfect for children. The titular character's kind personality and grand adventures capture the minds of all readers. The books even come with a subtle message of treating animals with respect. Sycamore Studio could easily translate such a positive and endearing theme into its film.
Another thing Sycamore Studio could do is incorporate Doctor Dolittle's actual appearance. Unlike the character's depictions in the movies, Dolittle is not tall or debonair. The story-version character is short and on the tubby side, almost like a penguin. His appearance also adds to the humor, and children would most likely enjoy seeing it.
