Former NBA star Nick Young recently sparked a Kyrie Irving vs. Stephen Curry debate on X, formerly Twitter.

Young, 39, is also known as “Swaggy P” and is a 12-year NBA veteran who played for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets. Young’s recent post on X was somewhat unclear but showed his clear stance that seemingly compared Irving to Curry.

Nick Young recently posted on his X account, “Kyrie is the Kobe to Curry MJ (people) scared to say he’s better..”

Some X users found Young’s post confusing, which was understandable, as it was an arguable statement in a short sentence. He implied that Kyrie Irving is to Stephen Curry what Kobe Bryant was to Michael Jordan. He also implied that people are afraid to admit that Irving is better than Curry like when they were afraid to admit that Bryant was better than Jordan. Young is no stranger to controversy, but bashing a player (Curry) who helped him win an NBA championship in 2018 is puzzling, to say the least.

Nick Young Compliments Kyrie Irving

Nick Young’s post has sparked a conversation on X. But he appeared to compliment Kyrie Irving. He didn’t appear to bash Stephen Curry. Irving, 32, had a bounce-back year, as he helped the Dallas Mavericks advance to the 2024 NBA Finals. Curry, 36, was a bright light on a rebuilding 2023-24 Golden State Warriors team.

Curry deserved his one-year, $62.6 million contract extension. However, Irving also deserved his three-year, $126 million contract. Irving’s recent success should put him on a higher pedestal.

Nick Young Might Be Right

Whether or not you agree, Nick Young might be right in his recent opinion on Kyrie Irving vs. Stephen Curry.

Irving might not be ahead of Curry, but the former should be in the top 75 players list, as he hit one of the biggest shots in NBA history, averaged more than 20 points per game 11 times in his career, and became a member of the 50-40-90 club in 2021.

Irving is one of the more underrated players in the NBA. Irving can’t be overlooked in future NBA history articles, books, and documentaries.
