Doncic’s nickname is “Luka Magic” due to his flair for the dramatic and his nearly no weaknesses on the court. The 25-year-old has been a member of the Mavericks since 2018 after being drafted with the third overall pick out of Real Madrid in Madrid, Spain. Here’s what you need to know.

The Lakers hired JJ Redick as their new head coach, but they failed to add some talent around James to win another NBA title. Redick might reduce the team’s struggles, but the team can go one step further and acquire Luka Doncic’s services, as Doncic’s talent and marketability are off the charts.

Los Angeles Lakers Legend Criticizes Trade Talks

Los Angeles Lakers legend Robert Horry, also known as Big Shot Rob, is a seven-time NBA champion.

It’s only fitting that Horry has criticized the Lakers’ trade talks. In a recent episode of the “Big Shot Bob” podcast, the 54-year-old said,

“You gotta think about this. Luka’s be gonna how old? Like 31, 32? … He ain’t the best defensive player now and that’s the Lakers’ problem! You got to have some athletic guys that can play some defense and Luka, he can score the best of them, but we also know you got to take beers out of his hand, because he ain’t the one that stay in shape!”

Horry’s statement showed his disdain for the Lakers’ potential acquisition of Doncic. Despite his dominant offensive highlights, Doncic’s defensive effort level can be concerning.

Luka Doncic is the possible face of the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, as he’s one of the biggest names in the NBA. Doncic’s size, skill, and love for the game make him a star player for any NBA team, not just the Lakers.

Doncic is currently a member of the Dallas Mavericks and in the middle of a five-year, $215 million contract extension, but it’s unlikely the Mavericks will let him go to Los Angeles. He’s signed through 2026-27, and his less-than-perfect defensive game can worsen the Lakers’ already average backbone for regular season and postseason success.
