ATP/WTA US Open 8/31 DFS Value Picks

With Carlos Alcaraz shockingly losing in straight sets on Thursday evening. This half of the men’s draw is wide open with number one seed Jannik Sinner in the driver's seat to at least make it to the US Open final.

But for the other players, somebody will be making their first major semifinal in this half of the draw. On the women’s side, the withdrawal of fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina also opens the floodgates to see who snatches the opportunity to make a deep run.

Men’s US Open DFS Value Picks

The first great value pick on Day 6 of the U.S. Open is to select Tomas Machac at $8,000 in his third-round encounter with veteran David Goffin. Machac is coming off of one of the best wins of the tournament which was a straight-set win over American Sebastian Korda. Korda was coming off winning the whole tournament in Washington D.C. and he was dispatched quite easily by Machac.

Goffin has had a very solid career but he is clearly on the last legs of his career while Machac is on the rise. There is a lot of value in taking Machac in this matchup. Reaching the third round of a grand slam at this point in Goffin’s career is the win but this is a bad matchup for him in order to make the round of 16 and make the second week.

The next good value pick is selecting 30th-seeded Italian Matteo Arnaldi at $7,100 in his third-round match against Australian Jordan Thompson. Thompson is coming off his most impressive win of the year by beating seventh-ranked Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. But in tennis, when you see upsets like that, the underdog who pulls it off usually has a major drop-off in their next match.

Arnaldi has continued the Italian tennis momentum with a fabulous season which includes a semifinal appearance in Montreal three weeks ago. The Italian has had some easy straight-set wins that have barely lasted two hours. Thompson is coming off an emotional win which normally drains him as he moves forward in tournaments.

Women’s US Open DFS Value Pick

The best value pick on the women’s side for day 6 is to pick the Italian fifth seed Jasmine Paolini at $7,600 in her third-round match against the 30th seed Yulia Putinseva. Putinseva has had a great summer which includes wins over Coco Gauff and Iga Swaitek. But this has been Paolini’s year.

The Italian went from being a total unknown to then making the final of the previous two majors. She will also have the benefit of being extremely fresh as her second-round opponent Karolina Pliskova retired a mere five minutes into the match. This is certainly the popcorn match but definitely ride the Italian wave here.
