Big Blow To India's Test Plans As Senior Batter Suffers Hand Injury

In the forthcoming two-match Test series, which will begin in Chennai on September 19, Team India is prepared to play Bangladesh. After being away from the field for over a month, the T20 World Cup 2024 winners will return to action in a white-ball series against Sri Lanka. India will also be playing in their first Test match after a six-month break since they played England in five Tests earlier this year.

Though he has only played one Test match in his career, the prolific T20I batsman was considering a potential return to the longest format for India. In addition to representing Mumbai in the existing Buchi Babu event, he was selected for the forthcoming Duleep Trophy, which kicks off on September 5.

Surya's plans did not work out as he ended up hurting his hand in a Buchi Babu tournament play versus Tamil Nadu. When Surya was fielding against Tamil Nadu in Coimbatore, he got a serious injury. It was also reported that Surya's involvement in the Duleep Trophy has still not been confirmed. Furthermore, it's uncertain if he'll play in the Test matches against Bangladesh.

Surya had previously stated that he wanted to secure a spot in the Indian Test team. In February 2023, he played his first Test match against Australia. "Many others have worked hard to win their place in the team, and I hope to follow in their footsteps. I played my first Test match for India, and then I got hurt. Many others were given the opportunity, and they excelled too. They currently deserve that chance," Suryakumar stated.

Among the most prominent players competing in the Buchi Babu Tournament was Suryakumar Yadav, who was also scheduled to compete in the Duleep Trophy 2024. His goal was to return to the Indian test team in time for the next series against Australia, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.

In the Buchi Babu Tournament, Suryakumar Yadav injured his hand fielding for Mumbai against the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI in Coimbatore, according to a report made by ESPN Cricinfo. It occurred on the 38th ball of the competition. The article also notes that it is still unclear whether Suryakumar Yadav's injury will have an impact on his ability to compete in the forthcoming Duleep Trophy 2024.

The injury happened a few days before the start of the Test series against Bangladesh on September 19. The T20I Indian team skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, was also named recently.
