Penn State Defeats West Virginia in Stormy Weather

The Penn State Nittany Lions were rolling to an easy win in West Virginia when the skies over Morgantown, West Virginia, turned on an incredible light show. But as it turns out, the Mountaineers weren't the only opposition Penn State had on this Saturday afternoon.

The heavens opened up with rain and lightning, causing a two-and-a-half-hour weather delay, which included an evacuation of the fans for safety reasons. But all this couldn't stop the Nittany Lions as they barreled to a 34-12 win over the Mountaineers.

    In Allar We Trust

Penn State turned quarterback Drew Allar loose with devasting results. They opened up the passing attack, which included two second-quarter passes of more than 50 yards, which led to two Nittany Lions touchdowns. The West Virginia defense had no answers all day for the junior signal caller from Medina Ohio.

Those long passes were hauled in by wide receiver Harrison Wallace III who ended his day with five receptions for 117 receiving yards and two scores and Omari Evans. Allar for his part contributed 216 passing yards on 11-17 passing. And he added three touchdown passes to his resume.

    More Penn State

Not to be outdone, running back Nicholas Singleton added 13 carries for 114 yards, including a 40-yard rocket fueled run up the middle for a touchdown that capped a 78-yard drive to open the second half scoring.

And the Penn State defense did their part limiting the West Virginia offense to 246 yards of total offense and also forcing three Mountaineers turnovers (two fumble recoveries and an interception). West Virginia was only able to counter with two Michael Hayes second quarter field goals and a one-yard plunge by CJ Donaldson in the fourth quarter.

    What Comes Next

Next Saturday, Penn State comes home to State College to play a 1-0 Bowling Green team and West Virginia plays host to Albany.
