The No. 1 team in the land showcased a severe bite when the Georgia Bulldogs defeated the No. 14 Clemson Tigers by a final score of 34-3 on Saturday afternoon. Georgia’s only loss of the season came in the SEC Title game against Alabama. The opening contest of 2024 served as a reminder that the Georgia Bulldogs came to play this season with full intentions of landing one of 12 opportunities in the 2024 College Football Playoff picture this winter.

Georgia Bulldogs, Clemson Tigers Features Defensive First Half

If you are a fan of low-scoring defensive football, then the first half of Saturday’s matchup between Georgia and Clemson was for you. Six points found their way on the board thanks to the Georgia Senior kicker Peyton Woodring. The Bulldogs carried a 6-0 lead into the halftime break. The teams combined for a total of 10 first downs and 236 yards of offense in the first half. The Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback, Carson Beck, was efficient throwing the football with 15 completions on 19 attempts totaling 126 yards.

Sophomore wide receiver London Humphreys ended the day with 2 catches for 63 yards and his first touchdown as a Georgia Bulldog. Humphreys told Patrick Garbin of UGASports that he didn’t fully remember his first TD as a Dawg:

“I mean, that was awesome,” said Humphreys. “I don’t remember it much, it just kind of happened, you know. But all I know is that I was in the end zone turnaround and all ten of my brothers were right there, so that was awesome to see.”

Clemson struggled to get going against a talented Bulldogs defensive front in the first half with 76 total yards. Junior quarterback Cade Klubnik threw for 54 yards on 7-of-12 passing. Clemson moved the chains only twice in the first half contributing to the halftime goose egg.

Georgia Bulldogs Offense Awakens in Second Half Against Clemson

The game came alive in the second half like Andy’s toys from the movie Toy Story. More specifically, the Georgia Bulldogs’ offense woke up and decided to score some points. The Georgia Bulldogs scored four touchdowns leading to 28 points in the second half to claim the game, 34-3.

Carson Beck threw for 152 yards in the second half. Beck finished the day 22-for-32 for 278 yards and four touchdowns against Clemson in the matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Running back Nate Frazier ran the ball for 83 yards and a touchdown as the Bulldogs finished with 169 total rushing yards on the day.

Clemson’s signal caller Klubnik threw for 142 yards with one interception. The Tigers quarterback was also sacked twice by the Georgia Bulldogs defense. Clemson’s only three points came courtesy of the foot of Nolan Hauser. The freshman connected on a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter.

    Georgia Bulldogs Next Opponent

The Georgia Bulldogs’ next opponent will be the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles next Saturday afternoon at Mercends-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia at 2 pm EST.

The Golden Eagles kick off their 2024 season on Saturday evening against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. Tennessee Tech competes in the Ohio Valley Conference in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision which was formerly known as Division I-AA. Tennessee Tech posted a 4-7 record in 2024.
