Kylian Mbappe Discusses Cristiano Ronaldo Pressure

Kylian Mbappe addressed the criticism he faced regarding his performance and dynamic with Vinicius Junior after scoring his first La Liga goal. Mbappe shared his relief at finally breaking his La Liga goal drought during Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Betis.

Despite the criticism he faced for not scoring in his initial three league appearances, the summer signing proved his critics wrong by scoring twice in a crucial win. With the likes of Jude Bellingham and Camavinga being injured, a bit of pressure had been on Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. as they failed to bag 3 points in the away mid-week fixture.

What Kylian Mbappe Said

“It was a fantastic moment,” Mbappe said, reflecting on the goal. “I had been eager to score at this iconic stadium, which I believe is the best in the world.” He expressed his satisfaction with his current situation. “I’ve been happy here since I arrived. The fans and everyone at the club have shown me great support, even when I wasn’t scoring.”

For some players, three games without a goal might not be significant, but for Mbappe, it felt substantial. Nonetheless, he appreciated the incredible support from both the club and the fans, which has bolstered his confidence.

Amid the criticism, there were concerns about Kylian Mbappe’s compatibility with Vinicius Junior. However, those concerns were dispelled when Vinicius provided the assist for Mbappe’s second goal from a penalty. Mbappe commented on their relationship, saying, “We are young and well-known, so it’s natural for people to talk about us. The coach said that both of us can take penalties. I don’t want to force things; that’s not my approach.”

Finally, Mbappe dismissed the notion that the pressure of succeeding Cristiano Ronaldo was affecting him. “I don’t feel that pressure,” he said. “I don’t think about Cristiano, with all due respect to him. Cristiano is my idol, yes. But no, I don’t want to follow anything. I don’t want that pressure. I want to be Kylian Mbappe. I only have the pressure of having to adapt to the team.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has set up huge numbers wearing the white Madrid shirt. The number seven star has scored a total of 450 goals in his time at Real Madrid. He has bagged up 4 Champions League trophies ( including the 3-peat) with the club and also 4 Ballon d’Or awards when it comes to individual awards. These statistics somewhat seem impossible to match unless Mbappe goes against all the odds.

Although Kylian Mbappe has stated that he takes no pressure, there will definitely be an urge to reach his idol, Ronaldo’s standards and be called as one of the greatest players of all time to play the game.
