IPL 2025: Mayank Yadav is the 'Rolls Royce' of Indian Bowling

During the encounter with Punjab Kings, Mayank Yadav came to the forefront (PBKS). He bowled at a pace of more than 145 mph, returning with three wickets for a total of 27 runs. Yadav had four appearances in the IPL 2024, taking four wickets at an economy rate of 6.99 and a velocity of 155.8 Kmph.

Later in the league, he had to leave the field due to an injury he received during the game versus Gujarat Titans (GT). And now Pacer Yadav, the leading player for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024, has been called the "Rolls Royce" of the IPL squad by former South African cricketer and fielding coach Jonty Rhodes.

Rhodes praises the 22-year-old Indian pacer, he states, “I'm not a bowling coach, but Morne Morkel, during the previous season, when Mayank got injured at the start of the preparation, literally Morne said, 'Wow, this guy (Mayank Yadav), he's like the Rolls Royce of bowlers,’ similar to how we used to call Allan Donald a Rolls Royce. He is LSG's Rolls Royce.” With a speed of 156.7 kmph, Yadav also has the record for the quickest delivery in the IPL 2024.

Mayank's cricket career has included injuries. Due to an injury, he received during a practice session, he was unable to participate in the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy and had to undergo rehabilitation in Mumbai. He also missed the 2023–24 IPL. However, in his brief appearances, Mayank made headlines and drew everyone's attention.

According to Rhodes, Mayank is incredibly skilled, which is why LSG stayed with him despite his health difficulties. Rhodes stated to IANS, "He had a whole season with the team and that's why the owners decided to keep him with the team, he did all his rehab throughout the IPL and stayed a part of the unit because we really believe that he is a young guy with extreme talent and we saw him in the games that he played and everybody was really monitoring him not wrapping him in cotton wool.”

LSG's Strategic Approach

But Rhodes was cautious, suggesting that Yadav stay away from being the next Umran Malik, a player who came on the scene with high expectations but struggled to stay in form. The important thing is to keep an eye on Yadav's workload and realize that he doesn't have to bowl a lot in nets. As he transitions into his role as a professional athlete, he stated that he must retain mental and emotional preparedness.

Rhodes believes that LSG has adopted a wise method in making sure Yadav is ready for competitive play rather than pampering him. With the IPL quickly approaching, he anticipates that Mayank will be prepared to showcase his skill on the field whether or not he wears the LSG uniform. This is an exciting prospect for the cricket community.
