Former Dallas Mavericks Player Davis Bertans Gets NBA Invite

Former Dallas Mavericks player Davis Bertans got an NBA invite from the Golden State Warriors. Bertans, 31, last played for the Charlotte Hornets in 2024. The 31-year-old was traded to the Hornets, alongside Tre Mann, Vasilije Micic, a 2024 second-round pick, a 2025 second-round pick, and cash considerations for veteran forward Gordon Hayward. Hayward announced his retirement on August 1, 2024.

Bertans, a Valmiera, Latvia, native, can play both power forward and small forward. Although Bertans’ professional basketball career can be described as wishy-washy, the former second-round pick can continue his career with a new team.

Could Bertans end up in the Bay Area? Read on for further information.

Davis Bertans Gets an NBA Invite

Davis Bertans, also known as the Latvian Laser, is a power forward who stands at 6-foot-10 and weighs 225 pounds. Bertans earned the nickname by being a unique but lethal three-point shooter and shooting 39.6% from deep, according to Sports Illustrated.

Bertans’ professional basketball career came with twists and turns, but the Baskonia alum got an invite from the Golden State Warriors, who want to determine whether or not to extend to a training camp invite. Bertans’ agent Arturs Kalnitis first announced the news surrounding his client and NBA insider Marc Stein confirmed the news.

    Davis Bertans Works Out

Davis Bertans will work out with the Golden State Warriors sometime.

Sources told NBC Sports Bay Area that Bertans is a “good name to watch” as the Warriors will take a closer look at several free agents. The Warriors’ roster remains a work in progress. Thus, the Warriors’ search for a diamond in the rough might lead to a Bertans signing, as they are trying to find a new Klay Thompson.

Bertans’ sharpshooting abilities arguably make him a solid candidate for the Warriors, who appear to be searching for a sharpshooter. The Warriors will host their training camp on October 1, 2024, on the BYU-Hawaii campus located in Laie, Oahu, Hawaii.

    Davis Bertans’ Previous Stints

Previously, Davis Bertans had NBA stints with the San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Charlotte Hornets. Bertans’ short-lived stint with the Mavericks lasted from just 2022 to 2023.

The veteran Bertans will enter his ninth NBA season with the hopes of securing a roster spot in the near future. The Golden State Warriors seem to want a new scorer. Bertans’ shooting, spacing, and smart off-ball movement could be the real deal for the Warriors.

Bertans’ agent Arturs Kalnitis reportedly wished his client good luck in the Bay Area, which is a positive sign for his client’s possible signing with the Warriors.
