Roger Federer is a tennis legend who is dearly missed. For this reason, all his movements in New York City on the Tuesday after Labor Day were newsworthy. What did the all-time great do during his time in "The Big Apple?"

Roger Federer Appears On Today

Savannah Guthrie, Today co-host and admitted Fed fan girl, interviewed Federer Tuesday morning. Roger Federer had lots of news to share. He is dropping a visual biography appropriately called Federer. Guthrie labeled it the ultimate coffee table book. It is a compilation of pictures throughout his long and storied career. Federer admits there are not as many pictures from his younger years on the court because cell phone cameras did not exist then.

Federer Drops Major Rafael Nadal News

Though Roger Federer is retired and Nadal is not a mainstay on the tennis court these days, fans like to keep up with the "Fedal" bromance. Federer told Guthrie that he recently spoke with Nadal who wanted to ask him a question. He did not elaborate on their discussion but Federer said that Nadal's summer was disappointing with tough draws at the French Open and the Olympics.

Roger Federer called Nadal an icon of the sport. He hopes Nadal can go out on his terms. Some fans speculated that Nadal might have asked Federer if he could and should call it a career at the Federer-sponsored Laver Cup next month in Berlin, Germany. Federer's retirement happened at the 2022 Laver Cup with both Federer and Nadal in tears.

Federer Ends the Day At US Open

Before Tuesday, Federer had not returned to the US Open since he retired in 2022. For this reason, US Open spectators went crazy when he was spotted in Arthur Ashe Stadium. He was there for part of Aryna Sabalenka's victory over Qinwen Zheng and the Frances Tiafoe and Grigor Dimitrov match.

Federer received a loud ovation when the camera panned to him. He was talking with Tim Henman, standing behind Mary Joe Fernandez (whose husband is his longtime agent) and near Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner.

Tennis Players Reacted To Federer's Presence

Though Aryna Sabalenka and Tiafoe were busy on the tennis court winning their matches, they knew that Roger Federer was in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Both commented on it after their wins. Sabalenka admitted that Federer was probably there for the men's match after hers.

That did not stop her from thinking she should play her best tennis in his presence. Tiafoe kept it real with a rundown of Federer's appearance, always cool, clean, and with no hair out of place, just like in his playing days.

A Few Days Removed From Serena Williams' Visit To The US Open

The only thing that would have been better is if Federer and Serena Williams coordinated their US Open visits. Both dominated and left the game around the same time, and some tennis fans have never recovered. Tennis fans love walking down memory lane with its former champions. Seeing them together would have been the ultimate fan experience.

Federer Is An Icon

Two years after his professional career concluded, Roger Federer remains a global icon. He is most known for his tennis career. However, he has transitioned from the sport to focus on his philanthropic efforts and other business ventures.

Could he get into coaching or broadcasting someday? Certainly, those opportunities have already been presented to him, but he is enjoying retired life spending time with his family and working on the projects nearest and dearest to him. Roger Federer's legacy could span well past tennis twenty or thirty years from now, but in the meantime, fans love it every time they see him at or near a tennis court.
