New York Mets Set To Begin Crucial 3-Game Set On Friday

The New York Mets(76-64) are the hottest team in Major League Baseball. They have won seven straight games and are preparing to welcome the Cincinnati Reds(67-73) to town for a three-game series beginning tomorrow night. New York swept the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox and took the final game of their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. New York will look for their eighth straight win tomorrow night and continue to climb the National League Wild Card standings. How will the New York Mets fare in their series this weekend with the Reds?

New York Mets In Prime Playoff Position

Thanks to a tremendous stretch of games, the New York Mets are only 0.5 GB of the Atlanta Braves for the third and final National League Wild Card spot. New York now has a 38.6% to make the MLB Playoffs according to FanGraphs. They have a tough closing stretch of their season with 10 games remaining against the Braves and Philadelphia Phillies plus three games to end their regular season against the Milwaukee Brewers. The New York Mets will need to play well, against some of the league's best teams, to make the postseason for the second time in three seasons.

Looking Ahead To The Mets-Reds Series

This will be the second time these teams will face one another this season. The Mets took two of three games from the Reds on the road in early April. This was an even series with both teams scoring 12 runs. The first and third games were a pitcher's duel and the middle game was a shootout that resulted in a 9-6 Reds win.

New York Mets Left Fielder Brandon Nimmo was the story of the series for New York as he went 6-of-12. Left Fielder Spencer Steer was the story for the Reds when they played the New York Mets earlier in the year. He had 3 RBI in the series.

Mets Send Ace To Mound In Series Opener

Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea toes the slab tomorrow night in the first game of the series in front of the Citi Field faithful. He is coming off a tremendous start as he tossed seven scoreless innings and punched out five on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox. Manaea is top 20 in the league in ERA and WHIP.

With the Cincinnati Reds missing the MLB Playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, the team would like nothing more than to play the role of spoiler in "The Big Apple" this weekend. The New York Mets must take advantage of one of the National League's weaker teams before entering a tough stretch of their schedule.
