Terence Crawford Contemplates His Future

Terence Crawford’s future in the ring comes into question now that there’s a strong possibility he has bid farewell to his boxing career. After the victory over Israil Madrimov, he may have already thought of retirement as promoter Eddie Hearn suggested. The result of the ‘decision victory on the 3rd of August showed that he clinched a belt in yet another weight category, the fourth to be precise, further enriching the list of his achievements.

Terence Crawford’s Possible Retirement

In an interview during Talk Sport, Hearn talks about Terence Crawford’s future and the Nebraskan boxer only be back in the ring if he is to fight Canelo Alvarez. Eddie Hearn also pointed out that he does not appear to have much of an intention to fight Sebastian Fundora at 154, even though the WBO has ruled the pair should meet. Hearn said that Terence may go for retirement as Andre Ward retired as an unbeaten champion at the top of his game, he stated;

I don’t think Terence Crawford will fight again, Hearn said. Because I think he’s made really solid money in the last couple of fights. And I don’t think he wants to fight Vergil Ortiz; I don’t think he wants to fight Jaron Boots Ennis. I think the only way Crawford will fight again is against Canelo Alvarez. Because he’s got used to that pay bracket, and I don’t think that pay bracket exists anymore outside of Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo Alvarez – The Only Fight That Interests Crawford

Hearn isn’t the only person with this point of view. Saudi sports promoter Turki Alashikh had a similar take in his statement, arguing that the only thing that he is interested in is a possible fight with Canelo Alvarez. If he and Canelo had fought, it would have solidified his position as unmatched in his career. Nonetheless, with the question mark hung on the future fights of Canelo, it appears hard for him to lace the boxing ring again.

Terence Crawford’s last performance was 41-0 with 31 KOs; he is 36 years and it can be argued that Crawford might have retired from the sport naturally. Andre Ward took his retirement recently and left his fans with more fights to be expected from him.

If he decides to retire now, he already has astonishing records on his name. This fight victory would probably remain the pinnacle in his boxing career specifically the fight against Errol Spence in 2023. More arguably decisive victories that propelled Terence Crawford into the pantheon of all-time greats include wins against Yuriorkis Gamboa, Viktor Postol, Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Shawn Porter, and the latest triumph over Israil Madrimov.
