Sam Noakes Retains European Lightweight Title with Dominant Win

Sam Noakes upheld his unsullied record and triumphed over the European lightweight title holder Gianluca Ceglia in London’s York Hall. The 27-year-old Brit systematically broke down the Italian, Ceglia, throughout the fight, eventually forcing him to stay on the stool after seven rounds. He secured his 15th career win, 14 of which have come by knockout.

Methodical Approach Leads to Early Dominance

Sam Noakes was not reckless in the fight, instead, he used a slow but consistent tactic of hammering Gianluca Ceglia with punches to the body. Despite this fact, Ceglia was initially able to hold his own and it was obvious that Sam Noakes’ shots were beginning to hit him harder. A swollen area above Ceglia’s right eyelid and the looks of discomfort from the punches hitting his body were indications that Sam Noakes’ strategy was effective.

As the rounds progressed, the Italian offered little in return for his dominance, struggling to keep up with the relentless body attack. Thus, Ceglia failed to take the initiative and seek an opportunity to counterattack because of Noakes’s accuracy and pressure on him.

Sam Noakes Ready for Bigger Challenges

Despite the one-sided nature of the fight, Noakes saw this fight as an important step in his career, he stated;

Fights like this are really going to bring me on, said Noakes. If the phone call comes there’s a world title fight next week, I’ll take it.

This fight came after his only second points victory in a fight last April, which overturned an extended series of 13 consecutive knockouts. Nevertheless, he defeated Ceglia once again which showed that he is back to his normal aggressive mood when it comes to inside-the-distance KOs.

Manager Advocates Patience for World Title Shot

Sam Noakes wants to take on tougher fights, but his manager, Francis Warren warned him about a possible world title showdown. Today in the current lightweight division, we only have the American talents Gervonta Davis the WBA world champion, and Shakur Stevenson who is the WBC world champion. The IBF and WBO vests are with Ukrainian fighters Vasiliy Lomachenko and Denys Berinchyk.

As for Sam Noakes, he maintains his winning streak and it is foreseeable just a matter of time before the contender fights for the world title. His astonishing and aggressive performance against Ceglia proved how he dominates his opponents from round one up to the last round, and the young Briton for now does not seem to be ready for the subsequent level of boxing. But he is certainly gaining experience, and if he continues in the same way he will soon be able to tackle the world titlist.
