    Little Nightmares

Little Nightmares is a horror/puzzle game in which you play as a child who is trying to navigate a ship called the Maw. Our protagonist is a little girl named Six and we as the player don't know much about her or the world that we're in. As we move along the game, solving puzzles, we're faced with many horrors. Our goal is to get Six off of the ship, but there are so many obstacles in Six's way, some may even be herself.

The game relies on stealth-based gameplay as well as puzzles. You as the player have to figure out how to escape the dangerous monsters around you because combat isn't an option—a realistic aspect given the fact that you're playing as a child. So instead of fighting your way out, you have to figure out how to sneak, or sometimes simply run, away from danger. This gameplay enhances the horror as you begin to immerse yourself in Six's world and her dilemma, feeling the same fear that she would feel about these monsters.

This game is one that you should probably play more than once. There are so many details and the story is told mainly visually. Even the background of the different scenes provides clues and easter eggs to help the player understand the plot/story better.

    Little Nightmares 2

With the first game being a wide success among players, streamers, and spectators alike, Little Nightmares 2 was soon released. Four years after the original game, we finally received the sequel that we were desperate for. We begin as a different player this time, however. In this game, we start by following a different child, a boy named Mono. After a while of playing as him, evading monsters, as usual, we encounter Six once again.

Mono and Six begin to help each other escape and evade. And while the game doesn't have a co-op feature, the way that the two children assist each other feels a lot like a co-op experience. At one point, Mono and Six are separated from each other and we are left to try and find her, evading horrors on our own once again. This time, we're able to use some force to fight the smaller enemies we face, rather than always evading like Six did.

    Why Play In 2024

Some gamers don't like reaching back into the game catalog and playing older titles. They would prefer to play newer games that are recently released, but sometimes some classics must be played. With Little Nightmares III coming to PS5 soon, it's the best time to revisit the series.

We've seen horror/puzzle games, we've seen platformers, but none like this. This horror game doesn't rely on jumpscares or high pace fight scenes. The monsters don't look like the usual terrifying monsters either. Most of them are more humanoid than not but are so unsettling, so odd, and scary. There's truly nothing like the horror of Little Nightmares and when you get to understand the story, understand exactly what you're playing, it's even more terrifying.

    Final Thoughts

Little Nightmares is a must-play franchise, especially with the third game set to come out in 2025. Little Nightmares III features new characters and a new location as well. We follow Low and Alone, two different children who are also wearing things over their heads just as Mono and Six did. This game has an online co-op option or allows you to play by yourself with the CPU. You can play the Little Nightmares franchise on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. The third installment is going to be playable on these platforms as well.
