New York Mets Enter Critical Stretch

The New York Mets were the hottest team in Major League Baseball heading into yesterday's game. Even with the loss, New York has recovered from what looked to be a lost season just a few weeks ago. The team has a 49.9% chance to make the MLB Playoffs according to FanGraphs. New York must have a solid series against the Toronto Blue Jays before entering a brutal stretch of games. Following their three-game set with the Jays, the New York Mets have 13 of their 16 remaining games against National League playoff teams(Braves, Milwaukee Brewers, and Philadelphia Phillies).

New York's winning streak was powered by a strong offense and a bullpen that has righted the ship in recent weeks. The Mets have been driven by their offense this regular season. They are 12th in batting average, fifth in home runs, and eighth in runs scored. A cause of concern for the ballclub heading into the final few weeks of the season has been the performance of star First Baseman Pete Alonso. His bat has gone cold at the most inopportune of times. He is hitting .167 this month and went 1-of-9 over the weekend against the Cincinnati Reds. He will need to play better for the Mets to make the MLB Playoffs in 2024.

Blue Jays Looking To Play Spoiler

The Blue Jays(68-76) will miss the playoffs after making it the last two seasons. They entered the 2024 regular with high expectations, but the team has been unable to find their footing this season. Even though Toronto will not get to play into October this year, the team still has a great deal to play for. The Blue Jays have the opportunity to play well in this series and make it difficult for the New York Mets to make the playoffs given their tough stretch of upcoming games. The Toronto Blue Jays have been an average team all season and the Mets will look to take advantage of that over the next three games.
