Michigan Wolverines Football Honors James Earl Jones After His Death

The Michigan Wolverines football program has a special connection with actor James Earl Jones. The famed actor is an alumnus of the university being a part of the class of 1955. Tributes have been pouring in as his voice was one of the most recognizable in all of Hollywood. The Wolverines football program put out their own tribute after his death on Monday.

Michigan Wolverines Honor James Earl Jones

Most people know James Earl Jones for his roles as Darth Vader and Mufasa or even his live-action roles in The Sandlot and Field of Dreams. However, if you have been to The Big House for a home game recently, you probably heard the iconic voice before kickoff. Upon the request of former head coach Jim Harbaugh, the famed actor narrated the hype video that plays as the team comes out of the tunnel. The Michigan Wolverines posted the full two-and-a-half-minute video on social media yesterday. It ends with Jones declaring, “We. Are. Michigan.”

Since this was Harbaugh’s brainchild, he also took to social media to honor the actor.

“James Earl Jones has passed! He carved a magical moment in our lives with his introduction of The Michigan football team each home game… “WE ARE MICHIGAN” and memories of my growing up with his part in “Sandlot” and “Field of Dreams” LEGEND!”

The Michigan Wolverines play at home this Saturday against Arkansas State. The hype video will probably hit a little differently for players and fans.

Season Outlook

The Michigan Wolverines will need some extra motivation for the rest of the year. They are coming off a terrible loss to the Texas Longhorns. While there is no shame in losing to one of the best teams in the country, Sherrone Moore’s team was never in it. The offense looked out of sync, and the communication on defense was lacking. If Michigan is going to salvage the season, they will need to improve things on the field and fast.

The good news is a much easier opponent is coming to Ann Arbor this weekend. There is a big difference between a top-three team in the nation and Arkansas State. Hopefully, this will be a good tune-up game before Big Ten begins. While the Texas loss was bad, it doesn’t count against their conference standings. There is a very simple path back to the conference championship. If they can win their division and beat Ohio State at the end of the season, they could be back on track for the College Football Playoff.
