Cristiano Ronaldo Opens up on Real Madrid's Champions League Success

It has been over six years since Cristiano Ronaldo departed from Real Madrid to join Juventus. While the Spanish powerhouse has continued to excel in European football, they haven’t quite been the same since his departure.

Cristiano Ronaldo was undeniably the driving force behind Real Madrid’s success, contributing significantly to their numerous titles, including four Champions League trophies. Now at Al Nassr and nearing the end of his illustrious career, Ronaldo still holds a deep admiration for his former club.

In a recent interview with Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo described Real Madrid as the greatest football club in history and expressed his enduring affection for them. During his nine-year tenure at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo made nearly 450 appearances, scoring 450 goals and providing 131 assists. He also reflected on some of the former teammates he had while at the club.

Los Blancos are the most successful club in Champions League history, having secured the trophy a record 15 times. The next closest team is AC Milan, with seven victories. In recent years, the Spanish giants have delivered some remarkable late comebacks in the knockout stages of the competition.

During the 2021-22 season, Real Madrid was trailing 4-3 against Chelsea in the second leg of the quarter-finals at the Santiago Bernabeu. Rodrygo scored in the 80th minute, and Real Madrid eventually triumphed in extra time. Similarly, in the semi-finals of the same season, they were down 5-3 against Manchester City in the 89th minute at the Bernabeu. Rodrygo scored twice to level the match, leading to extra time where Real Madrid secured the win.

“People say they are lucky, no they aren’t lucky. They prepare for these kind of moments. Bernabeu, it has a different aura, the energy. When the big teams go there, they score a goal, 85th or 90th min, they feel the pressure. For me it’s the best club ever.”

Ronaldo’s Statements on Kroos, Mbappe and Bellingham

Ronaldo shared his views on several former Real Madrid teammates during a recent discussion. Regarding Toni Kroos and his unexpected retirement this summer, Ronaldo commented, “That’s his choice, and we have to respect it. I respect his decision. He could have played for a few more years, but it’s up to him.”

Cristiano Ronaldo also spoke about his fellow Portuguese player and former Real Madrid defender Pepe, saying, “He’s boss on the pitch and outside the pitch he’s a great guy.” In addition, Ronaldo expressed confidence in Real Madrid’s new recruit, Kylian Mbappe, praising him, coach Carlo Ancelotti, and president Florentino Perez. “I think he will do well. They have a great coach, the president,” said Ronaldo. “I think he can be the best golden ball. He, Haaland, Bellingham. Also Lamine Yamal.”

It is not common thing that such a renowned personality like Cristiano Ronaldo to mention someone on a podcast. Taking into consideration a 17-year-old Barcelona (his former rival club) youngster is in itself a very big thing as Ronaldo appreciates Lamine for his hard work at such a young age.
