Oleksandr Usyk Urges Tyson Fury to Improve Fitness

Today, Oleksandr Usyk posted an Instagram direct message to Tyson Fury calling the WBC heavyweight champion “chubby” and urging him to hit the gym more often for the rematch fight scheduled for December 21st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This call-out comes after Fury’s defeat in the pair’s first fight on May 18th. Fury looked considerably out of form and fatigued, clearly having difficulty keeping up with Oleksandr’s work rate, and was defeated by a split 12-round decision.

    Oleksandr Usyk’s Message to Fury

In one of those posts on social media, Usyk jokingly challenged Fury to undertake a jogging routine to boost his fitness. Although Fury weighed 262 lbs, which is not heavily inflated for the man, his physical preparations lacked the stamina that might have gone down to back-to-back camps. This Fury strategy of pulling his trunks high so that his midsection wouldn’t be exposed was not fooling anyone since people could see the lack of muscle tone.

    Usyk’s Plan for the Rematch

One can see that Tyson Fury was not in proper physique in their first fight, where most of the extra flaps were around his belly, hence restricting his movement. He was in much better condition and got an upper hand on Fury. Tyson Fury fell back on ropes for most of the round. Just like a younger man, Oleksandr was a faster and much fresher fighter than Fury, and the way Fury moved looked similar to how Larry Holmes did when he walked into the ring to face Oliver McCall in their fight of 1995.

Oleksandr Usyk was moving in and out of range, varying his punches and assuming the very wrong position for Fury. The former WBC champion for that fight tipped the scales at 262 lbs, a weight that, though not the highest the great fighter had ever been, was not the muscle man he once used to be.

Fury’s weight has been an issue and Usyk takes him through the fact that he’ll have to shed a lot of pounds for the second fight to happen. During Fury’s win against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, he had a fighting weight of 247 lbs, and many think that Fury will need to achieve this weight if he is to deal with the skills of the quick Oleksandr Usyk.

Oleksandr Usyk’s Plan for the Rematch

Dryub was giving interviews stating a strategic approach in the run-up to the rematch in the fight against Oleksandr Usyk. In his own words, the unified heavyweight champion said that he will KO Fury this time and will not leave the issue to the judges. The confidence and the same pride come with the fact that he overwhelmed Fury in the ninth round of their previous fight with combinations. Considering his problems with conditioning, the Ukrainian boxer is confident that, if he puts constant pressure on Fury, the bombardment will be too much for the Briton to handle.
