    USU Golf Ties For 14th

Tuesday, USU tied for 14th place at the SIU Edwardsville-hosted Dolenc Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links. The Aggies team scored a 54-hole over 21-873 (276-303-294) against an 18-team field. Hosting SIU, Edwardsville took the tournament, posting 15 under 837 and beating the second-place team, Wichita State, by four strokes. Connor Hamm of Bradley University took first place as an individual medalist with 13-under 200. USU had their best round when playing the first 18 holes on Monday, finishing 8-under 276. That score tied for the second-best on the second day. After the first round, USU had a 1-shot lead.

USU Didn’t Do So Bad At Gateway National

Aggie senior Julio Arronte led the way as he tied for 20th and just one under 12, which also was his fifth career under par. That score earned him the seventh time he has placed in the top 20. In his first 18 holes, he shot two under par 69. Later, he played for an even-par match and unfortunately went one over par in his final round.

    Other Aggies Who Did Great

Another Aggie of note is sophomore Enrique Karg, who tied for 44th at six over 2019. Like his other Aggies, his best round of the tournament was the first 18, as he performed a career-best of 6 under at 65. With those scores added to his career, he now has four rounds in the 60s, and that’s his sixth round under par.

Just behind him was graduate John Cook, who tied for 62nd place, scoring 10 over from 223. He wasn’t alone, as senior Esteban Jaramillo scored the same along with him. For Jaramillo, it is the tenth time he has made it in the 60s and the 20th time he finished under par.

    Cook shared,

My goal was to make the round of 16. This is the furthest I’ve gotten. This year I made a pretty good effort to stay in longer.

The last player worthy of note is graduate Cole Enlow, who tied for 82nd and finished 16 over 229. With all of them combined, USU placed 14th, going 21 over. SIU Edwardsville placed first, Wichita State second, Bradley finished third, six under, and Southern Illinois tied with them. All these teams performed exceptionally well.

    Best In the Individuals

As individual players behind Bradley came to Brady Kaufmann of SIU Edwards, finishing ten under, Max Schmidtke from South Dakota with eight under, and Christian Rischer of Missouri State was tied with him.

The USU golf program will play again at the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. It will start on Saturday, September 21, and continue on to Monday, September 23rd, on the United States Air Force Academy Campus.
