Report: Pittsburgh Penguins Announce Training Camp Dates

The Pittsburgh Penguins' 2024-2025 season is less than a month away. On Wednesday, October 9, the Penguins will open the 2024-2025 season at home against the New York Rangers. Pittsburgh will have many question marks about the roster before the 2024-2025 season starts.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have yet to give Marcus Pettersson and Sidney Crosby than when training camp will begin.

Wednesday, September 18, Begins Preseason Activities

The Pittsburgh Penguins will officially begin training camp on Wednesday, September 18. All non-game day practices are free and open to the public. Those practices will take place at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The training camp will end on Friday, October 4.

Some preseason games will be held between those dates. The Pittsburgh Penguins' first preseason game will be against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, September 21.

Pittsburgh will play seven preseason games on the NHL calendar before beginning the 2024-2025 season. They will also face the Ottawa Senators, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Columbus Blue Jackets during the preseason. The lineups will be different for each game.

It will be interesting to see how head coach Mike Sullivan will spread out the lineups with each game. Toward the end of the preseason, it is usually the players who will make the roster who usually get to play.

One of the biggest stories in training camp this year for the Pittsburgh Penguins will be the goalies. There will be at least four goalies worth of interest to this fanbase. Tristan Jarry, for now, will be the starting goalie. However, Alex Nedeljkovic could steal the job from him. He was the starter toward the end of the 2023-2024 season.

The other goalies, Sergei Murashov and Joel Blomqvist, will also be must-watches in practices and preseason games. Murashov and Blomqvist will most likely be a goaltending tandem with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL.

One of the main reasons Pittsburgh Penguins fans want to attend training camp is to see the big three: Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang. Every year, the team always seems to have a big injury right when training camp happens.

Hopefully, this does not happen with the Pittsburgh Penguins to start the 2024-2025 season. Training camp is always an exciting team of the year for NHL fans. The last storyline to watch for in training camp is the blue line. They struggled last year but expect to see some improvements this season for them.
