    Former Washington Capital Stephen Peat Dies at 44

    Former Washington Capitals enforcer Stephen Peat died at the age of 44. After a tragic vehicular accident over two weeks ago, Stephen Peat has succumbed to his injuries and unfortunately passed away. Many fans and former teammates across the world mourn the tragic accident that took the life of a kind-hearted man and fierce hockey enforcer. How will he be remembered?

    Stephen Peat's Early Career

    Stephen Peat started his professional hockey career with the WHL. During five seasons, he played for three teams. Peat entered his NHL career after being drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 1998. In 2000, Anaheim traded Peat to the Washington Capitals. He spent four seasons with Washington. Stephen Peat played 131 games with the Capitals, gained a total of 10 points, and scored eight goals during his NHL career. He was the Washington Capitals' resident enforcer. Reiterating his presence on the ice, and the team's physical dominance, no matter what the scoreboard showed.

    To further drive the point home, Stephen Peat accrued 238 penalty minutes, while his average time on the ice was roughly five and a half minutes. The right winger moved from the NHL to the AHL at the end of his last season with the Capitals in 2006. Peat retired during the 2006-2007 AHL season for various rumored reasons, after playing only one game with the Albany River Rats.

The clarification on whether he was struck by a vehicle, or in a vehicular collision is unknown at this time. Specifics on the injuries sustained are also unclear, but the following is known. Stephen Peat was involved in a car accident over two weeks ago. After two weeks of suffering from severe injuries, Peat succumbed to his state at the young age of 44. Amid the devastation, The NHL Alumni announced that Peat will be helping to save numerous other lives by donating his organs.
