Sherrone Moore Talks Michigan Wolverines’ Quarterback Plans Ahead Of Clash With USC

Sherrone Moore has had a rocky start to his tenure as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. A week after getting shellacked by the Texas Longhorns, the team had trouble putting away Arkansas State. A big reason for this was poor quarterback play. Davis Warren won the job in the offseason but threw three interceptions in the game. This caused Moore to bench him for Alex Orji. The quarterback play has been inconsistent through the first three games, and many wonder what the plan is moving forward. Ahead of a clash with USC, Moore talked about his plans for the quarterback position.

Michigan Wolverines Sherrone Moore On QB Plans

The first-year head coach is not ruling anything out. In his postgame press conference, Moore expressed the need to eliminate turnovers.

“Just can’t have ’em. Put the ball in harm’s way too many times. So, made the change and we’ll continue practicing and go from there… Just not great stuff to put on film. Yeah, I was surprised. That’s football, though, so that stuff is going to happen and we had to make a change.”

Fans got an extended look at redshirt sophomore Alex Orji, but he didn’t perform well enough to win the job outright. Moore wouldn’t commit to who would be under center when the Trojans come to Ann Arbor next week.

“I wouldn’t call them an issue, we’re just gonna go to work. We’ll get better like we did with the running game last week and we’ll get better in the passing game and we’ll continue to drive forward.”

Ignoring The QB Position

The Michigan Wolverines ignored the quarterback position in the last few recruiting classes. Many programs have gone after players in the transfer portal, but Michigan decided to stick with what they had. They are paying the price this season. Top programs don’t come into the season with questions at quarterback. The most important position in football is that of the quarterback, and the Wolverines decided to focus elsewhere.

The team does have freshman Jadyn Davis who was one of the top prospects in this year’s class. Sherrone Moore will hopefully use this season as a warning and make sure to prioritize the position moving forward. For this season, something has to change quickly or the Michigan Wolverines could be in for a long season.
